NEW YORK -- Connie Chung is out at CNN as the centerpiece of the cable news network's star-driven, prime-time lineup.
"Connie Chung Tonight" had been criticized in some circles for its emphasis on crime and personality stories but had drawn strong ratings in a nondescript time slot.
Her show was temporarily replaced by a news program when the Iraq war began last week. A CNN spokeswoman says when Chung asked management Tuesday when it would be back on, she was told it had been canceled.
CNN said Chung declined to stay on in another capacity.
Chung has been a major figure in broadcasting over the past 30 years. CNN hired her away from ABC News last year.

Yes, we had heard--but if it's set to music, it'll become a #1 with a bullet on all the charts.

Just between you and me...Doesn't it suck to be Connie Chung right now?
To: Oldeconomybuyer
Just thought I'd toss this out because I've been wondering and this looks like the thread for it: Anybody know what happened to Nackman on MSNBC? He hasn't been on his own show for two months. Just curious.

When I lived in NY, I noticed that as the presidential election season approached, the media, including the NYTimes, would become less liberal, more impartial, even slightly conservative. This would continue right up until the last 60 days before an election. Assumedly, their intention is to woo back moderates, so that they will have them back under their control during the crucial final days in October and November. Alternatively, they are willing to move more to the center during safer times, but can't bare to stay in the center during the election season.
CNN has probably discussed this rather successful formula with the NY Times.

Chung has no discernable talent whatsoever. She'll probably be recycled somwhere else however.

Jerry Nachman is reportedly very ill.

What's a "Connie Chung", and why would anybody want to drop one, abruptly even? Seems to me they'd break....
