U.S. Marines Under Attack North of Nassiriya

Wed March 26, 2003 01:38 AM ET NORTH OF NASSIRIYA (Reuters) - U.S. Marines met armed Iraqi resistance on Wednesday, halting their advance north from Nassiriya, a Reuters correspondent said. Correspondent Sean Maguire, traveling with Marine units, said the advance was halted at the town of Ash Shatrah, 25 miles north of Nassiriya where Marines had crossed the Euphrates river on Tuesday after fierce fighting. "The Marines have called in artillery strikes on to the town," he said.

It's easier to kill them when they try to attack us.

I don't think it's the same town. It's 25 miles north of Nassiriya where this clash is happening.

don't you just love this.

Rather than focus on the fact that we crossed the river in a sandstorm, in a firefight, and moved 25 miles anyway, we focus on the fact that they have stopped to kill some more enemy.

Unfreaking belivable.

but they only moved 25 miles

They are moving through towns and over rivers. 25 miles in a day is good progress.

Yeah, and of course Reuters is claiming we are calling artillery fire on the town. Bullshiite.

If we are calling fire 'on the town', it's very well directed.

If I had any say, there wouldn't be a single Reuters reporter anywhere near Iraq.

If I had my say they'd be there all right-standing on top of Saddam's bunker.

Iraqi militias man a sandbag position in Baghdad Tuesday, March 25 2003, as a fierce sandstorm casts a yellow pall over the city. More security and police officers were seen around the city, and residents said members of Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)'s feared intelligence agencies were also posted on the streets.(AP Photo/Jerome Delay)

25 MILES FROM BAGHDAD!

Where do you get this 25 mile malarkey?

It is the 25th of March, but that does not mean we have 25 miles to march to Baghdad ;>)

Notice how they're facing TOWARDS some fairly major buildings. (NO - you may NOT leave Baghdad at this time).
