CNN - aaron brown is saying the NYT tomorrow will have a report that some of the POWs were summarily executed, probably publicly.

"When this word gets out, it's hard to control the troops." Gen. Wesley Clark.

Brown said the story will change things. "People will be outraged."

"In that particular part of the world, it is very unwise to have women fighting.

It is unwise in this part of the world to justify the murder of American prisoners of war. ZOT!!

The fedayeen scum are terrorists, not resistance fighters

Anyone who think these savages are resistance fighters has a moral compass which is completely upside down. The fedayeen aren't fighting for their country, and they aren't fighting to defend against invaders. They are fighting to preserve the regime of Saddam Hussein. Their only allegiance is to that regime; not to their country, and not to its people. They have brutalized and killed the people of Iraq for years.

The true resistance fighters are the Iraqis in Basra who are now rising up and fighting against the fedayeen. But I imagine everyone at DU sees THOSE Iraqis as the bad guys.

I have no doubt, absolutely no doubt whatsoever, that liberals would claim that Satan and his band of fallen angels are resistance fighters and that God is the bad guy.

They should be.

"How pointing this out makes me a SADDAM SUPPORTER makes no sense."

It's easy, you attribute this attitude toward "invaders" to Iraqis in general, an endorsement of Saddam's propaganda position that he is their unanimously elected leader. I have seen the same statement, word for word, at Indymedia and DU. Choose your words more carefully in the future.

Please work on your logic.

Pointing out an expected behavior pattern does not mean one agrees with such behavior. I NEVER said torture and mutilation is justified. How did my post get so distorted in your mind that I'm a for torture and mutilation of our own people? That is crazy. We need to clean their clocks in order to STOP that sort of behavior.

TO ALL THOSE WHO ARE LOOKING TO PICK A FIGHT, I POINTED OUT THAT THIS IS WHAT THEY DO. WE ALL KNOW SADDAM'S GOVERNMENT USES TORTURE AND EXECUTION ON A REGULAR BASIS. THEREFORE, IT SHOULD COME AS NO SURPRISE TO ANYONE THAT THEY WOULD DO THE SAME OR WORSE TO AMERICAN AND BRITISH TROOPS WHO THESE PEOPLE SEE AS INVADERS. IT'S LIKE BEING SHOCKED THAT A DOG BARKS.

The positive connotation of your statement about "their" motives does, however. The moderators obviously agreed with my assessment. If you misspoke (as is now obvious), fine, no more will be said about it.

You are quite right that nobody should be surprised at this behavior. I would hate to see it turn into an orgy of revenge killing against Iraqis who would not endorse it.

I meant Iraqi fighters, not civilian sheep herders and families. They are fierce fighters in that part of the world, and this will probably not be the first such incident. They are known for doing all sorts of horrible things to their enemies.

They did remove it!! I really don't understand what I said that was so bad. Well that's a first for me, having a comment banned. I must not have written that very clearly, although I thought I made myself clear. Guess the moderators felt the same, I wish I knew what sounded so bad. I just said they see us as enemies and will do things like that, I don't see what is so controversial about it. Maybe because I didn't make a clear distinction between those fedayeen fighters and civilians, I figured people would know I was talking about the fighters.

I must make it clear I never justified the murder of American POWs. Not even close. That is terrible and wrong. I don't like words being put in my mouth.

I agree the captives saw the executions. One soldier was so scared or upset his head was shaking.

Good question. I always thought that the editor of the Times, Howell Raines wanted to sign the surrender papers to the Iraquis.

They pulled down their pants, and the ones who were circumcised were executed, on the supposition that they were Jews.

My blood boils.
