March 23, 2003 Release Number: 03-03-52
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DOD Release: Coverage of POWs and Deceased
Out of respect for the families and consistent with the principles of the Geneva Conventions:
1) We request news organizations not air or publish recognizable images or audio recordings that identify POWs. Additionally, we request you not use their names, first or last, or their unit until next-of-kin notification is complete. We are working hard to reach their families. We will notify you as soon as this is done.
2) We repeat standing policy that news organizations not air or publish recognizable images of deceased members of the U.S. military or use their names, first or last, or their unit, until next-of-kin notification is completed or 72 hours. We are working hard to reach their families. We will notify you as soon as this is done.

Thank you for this post. I was livid on Sunday when they aired the POWs.
My son was in the Army for 7 years, and my heart aches for these families.
Let us not make their suffering any worse.

Thanks for the heads up!

I do not want to see another POW picture the rest of my life, but I am actually glad to have seen enough of the first Iraqi press release to know just how sub-human the people we are dealing with are. It is as if we are now face-to-face with the moral equivalents of bin Laden, which is a greater level of depravity than even Hitler or Stalin.

They are indeed at the Bin Laden level of evil.
Disgusting depravity. The execution of unarmed American prisoners and heralding that as some victory is proof of their cowardice and cruelty.
