If they truly love their Sadam then they may go down as some of the stupidest people on the face of the earth.

Does anyone here know exactly why we witdrew support of the '91 uprisings?

IIRC - Onset of early Someziemer's Disease you know)-Something about not being sure what kind of a regime would take the place of Saddam (better the devil you know than the one you don't know) and just letting the Iraqis settle it amongst themselves.

Among Baghdad's residents, there isn't much momentum for a popular uprising to topple Saddam Hussein's regime, at least not right now.

Baghdad is full of Pro Soddom thugs, secret police and Republican Guard troops then some Frog calls up and asks the Iraqis what they think?

Before it's over the allied troops will be hard pressed to keep the locals from hanging the Soddomite Thugs from lamp posts.

There are three major problems with the info here:

1) If Saddam's henchmen are that powerful, they likely are tapping phones and there is a fear that they can intercept e-mail. "We will resist." That might indeed be true. On the other hand, it might be so much BS to assuage the worries of the "ears."

2) "Have the Shiites and the Kurds help on an invasion of Baghdad." Right. Just what we want--to have them shooting at each other with us in between. Remember, these groups are not friends, just enemies with a mutual enemy. That is why a semblance of GOVERNMENT must be in place before anyone deals with these groups.

3) "Who controls the water controls the people." No kidding. You can't just drink from the Tigris.

Look, I have no illusions that this will be like the liberation of Paris, with people waving U.S. flags and cheering as we roll by. On the other hand, I do NOT think it will be like Mogadishu, with EVERY person armed and dangerous.

There will be serious anti-Baath opposition when it is safe to "come out," and not one minute before. I DO think we should have some of the exiles transmitting and broadcasting for us on loudspeakers.

Let the left scream and rage. Let the world rage. It's better that they fear us.

I hope you don't have kids.

Well, nothing succeeds like success. I think these folks will be thrilled when our guys finally get there. Right now, they're still living under the threat of Sadaam's regime. Until that is gone, they have every right to be unwilling to speak out.

I just don't expect the Iraqis to do our work for us, and I don't expect them to welcome us with open arms either. They probably won't offer much resistance, but these people got burned in '91 and sanctions have not sat well with them.

I'm betting that people in Baghdad are still feeling too intimidated. Baghdad is the center of Saddam's power.
