Did any of you see Helen Thomas yesterday questioning if we're treating the POW's at Guatanamo according the Geneva Convention rules??? I WAS SOOO PISSED OFF...so I went ahead and actually emailed her this:
Ms. Thomas,
I watched the White House Press Briefing this morning and was intrigued by your inquiry about if the U.S. was abiding by the rules of the Geneva Convention as it regards to Guantanamo.
Since you were wondering if the U.S. treats the most vile enemies of our country humanely, I must point out the most obvious evidence: You get a front row seat at every Press Briefing.

I can just see it now..
Rumsfeld up at the podium, giving the press briefing...
"Now, anyone have any questions that aren't sophmoric, idiotic, more helpful to the enemy than to us, or generally.."
'Mr Rumsfeld, Mr. Rumsfeld! There are Rumors of soldiers shooting at those brave and courageous Iraqi soldiers who are trying to surr.."
*Bang*
'uuuugh..'
Rumsfeld waving at the press with gun..
"Now, anyone else have a question that isn't..."
If only it could be made as a parody movie...
Or that easy.
/joke.

Close your eyes and just listen to Rumsfeld. Tell me whom you think he sounds like.
(Pause...............)
OK, I think he sounds like Henry Fonda. No kidding. Just listen.

Rumsfeld reminds me of Robert MacNamara. Hair? Glasses?
You be the judge. I think McNamara, no offense to either, looks more like Clark Kent. Perry White?

William Shatner.

From a Saturday Night Live sketch last November. They had a skit about a Rumsfeld press conference:
Reporter: We're being told that Northern Alliance forces are firing back at Taliban forces who have fired on them, even though the Taliban troops missed. Does the U.S. condone that?
Rumsfeld: Now, what kind of question is that?
Reporter: Thought-provoking?
Rumsfeld: No.
Reporter: Incisive?
Rumsfeld: No. Remember what I said about your question the other day?
Reporter: That it was idiotic?
Rumsfeld: AND...?
Reporter: And that I am an embarassment both to myself and to my newspaper?
Rumsfeld: That's right.
To: Hildy
Good for you, that was pithy.

Robert MacNamara is and was a jerk. He represented all that was wrong with the politicians running the war efforts. In recent years he tried to play the role of the reluctant victim of circumstances. As a Vietnam vet I have nothing but contempt for him and all his ilk that engaged the US military in a war they had no intention of paying the necessary price to win. We were their playthings. We knew French and Soviet boats were unloading military supplies and equipment in the north that was being used to kill our boys and we were not allowed to take them out.
As far as who he looked like...I think he looked like a Nazi back then. In later years he came to look like an old Nazi.

McNamara and the other "whiz kids" were clowns. Knowing nothing about even the simplest weaponry, they overruled the Pentagon and delivered to our troops combat rifles that didn't work. Barrels that rusted. No cleaning kits. After one or two engagements, these weapons were only good as clubs. Absolute idiots.

Rummy really put the stilleto into the media "analysts" (read retired brass) on several occasions today.
Hope General McAffrey and the Clintonian Perfumed Prince, General Clark, saw and heard the briefing.

And now Ari is dealing with the same stupid question all over again. It's not really a question at all. It's an indirect mantra and the subtext is, "the war will be a quagmire... the war will be a quagmire... the war will be a quagmire."

(wait...do you think she'll 'get it'? I mean, it requires putting two pieces of information together and seeing the connection. she's had LOADS of information lobbed at her for many years....possibly hundreds....and she still doesn't GET IT!)
