Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

So, how does one say "Deeply Saddened" in Turkish? A very rough translation courtesy TurkeyCentral.com:

Past couple hours: 3,000 U.S. uniforms found in a hospital, Iraqi TV no longer broadcasting, but might be back up. conflicting reports on that, it seems. 3rd ID ends skirmish with about 500 dismounted Iraqis. They were either Iraqi Fetiaheen militia, or the outside edge of the RG.

I saw some years ago at the amphib base...on another note I was driving on the amphibbase on the Strand one day when the Seals were parachute dropping into the Bay on a training mission...it was windy and right out of the sky a parachutist landed on the road directly in front of my moving car, good thing I was going slow it surprised me..apparently he missed the landing zone by quite a bit...

Mort keeps hammering on how everyone thought this was going to be so easy. It's the DNC talking point of the week. Man, they're not just annoying, they're big liars. CENTCOM and DOD briefings both addressed this.
SOD Rumsfeld re. raising expectations that the war would end soon: "Not by me and not by Gen. Myers."
"Analysts say what they say. They seem to me to be all over the lot. "It's not knowable." "If people have a tendency to gravitate toward some analyst that may be unreasonable, I would not follow that analyst and (would instead) listen to what we say."
Gen. Myers: "I've never talked about a timeline...it is unknowable."
Shame on Mort for not doing his homework. No excuse for a journalist to miss the DOD briefing...and then make baseless, false accusations against the military during wartime.

There is a lot of acreage east of Baghdad no body is mentioning. Of course, we are doing a pretty good when the 'raquis know exactly where we are. Gen Franks refers to having many units available but not in place. Yet. And several pieces keep disappearing from the board. I am almost waiting for us to seize control fo the rivers and cut the country into thirds. That has been a useful tactic for cneturies, including Viet.

2322 GMT - U.S. Army Gen. Tommy Franks has said that U.S. forces will wait to make a major push to Baghdad until March 29.
Debka said a few days ago that the big push would be on March 29. FWIW.
