Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Weren't there reports earlier that a day care center was in there? But it was hit at night.

That's what I heard last night on O'Reilly. It was an interview with Maj. Bevelacqua, Maj. Gen. Vallely, and Col. Hunt, and they said it hadn't been taken out b/c it was in a daycare center.
However, they suggested that it wouldn't stay up for long. They were right! :o)

There are still Western journalists in Baghdad who have their own uplinks to their respective networks. The Iraqis probably told them, who in turn told their bosses back here. That makes sense. Kinda funny to think the Iraqis would have to resort to Western communications links to get their message out.

crazy thing is that there aren't many basements in homes there. I think it's a Southern thing. None of my family in the South have basements and here in Southern Illinois, I live in a 98 year old house and I have one of the only basements in the area. None of my friends have basements. Up north, everybody had a basement. I have no idea why that is - it's just strange.

"US has lost some vehicles." My guess is that forward elements (Humvees and/or Bradleys) came across RG in the sandstorm, and that the RG got in some early licks. Our guys call in artillery, and it's a fight.
We'll see, though. Praying for our guys.

It was only described as a daycare. It could be some type of orphanage where kids are there 24/7. There was also mention of infirm individuals being housed there.

I had a blue screen for a few minutes. Now singing. The sand is definitely passing, can see lights to the left.

Okay, I'm out of here for now. My goal for tonight is to 1) exercise and 2) do the dishes.
I'll be back in if I can make it. FR has the best news and it's soooo hard to stay away!

I hate it when there's only dound.

A Guess:
I haven't heard how they determined the casualty numbers... JSTARS maybe? (could've tracked some vehicles by radar and estimated force size killed based on the number of vehicles hit).
To: theophilusscribe
However, they suggested that it wouldn't stay up for long. They were right! :o) The sandstorm probably precludes their hitting other, higher priority targets. So, since the TV transmitter's location is fixed and known, they probably decided they could just blast it.
