Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
Special thanks to null and void for keeping these running over the weekend and Monday, to all of you for keeping these threads alive, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

I don't know when they would have taken out Iraqi TV, but I could easily see why... there was just a report of Iraqi TV reading a message from Saddam to the Fedayeen to "attack the US supply lines now." Whatever intel we get from the TV, it *also* can serve as a partial replacement for their command and control communication, so I am having more and more trouble seeing why we would leave it on.

If Sadam is still in control of Iraq and his military as Aziz said yesterday, WHY is someone reading a letter via tv to his troops???
To: WI Conservative 4 Bush
First we get spliced tapes, then messages relayed by underlings, now a letter. Next meassage from Saddam will be a note in a bottle.

Probably already posted here, but. . .
Uprising By Shiites in Basra Underway;
British Pouring Artillery into City
Just monitored on Sky News: embedded reporter says Shiites in Basra have begun, in his words, a "popular uprising" against the Saddam forces still in the city. British Army units are "pouring" artillery into the city (likely isolated areas) preparing to move in.

Even if Saddam is dead, such a message can have an impact. I don't see why they left the TV on.
To: Jackie-O
maybe his visual AND audio (a la UBL) doubles are dead.
To: Miss Marple
Note in a bottle from Saddam: Me thinks the Genie got his death wish.

Well, maybe the illiterates buy the letter routine. Sky News guy says some of the peasants think that if Saddam leaves, they will have an American president. It is hard to get through to the really primitive.

"Uhhhh....he's an effective delegator?"
Extremely LOL.
OK, Appy, that kind of stuff is ok when I'm at home, and can easily replace the keyboard. How am I gonna splain this to the IT guy? Yeah, the soda fell out of my mouth...

To: Jackie-O
