NBC News ran a background story about Jose Guiterrez, killed U.S. Marine. He came to the country illegally from Guatemala in a freight train. Lived in a foster home, became a U.S. Marine and died in the last few days in Iraq. Brokow follows up with: "Think about that before you rail against illegal immigrants again!"

There are many recent immigrants fighting among those men. Many of them sons of illegal immigrants. There are so many immigrants who love and fight for this country. It is always important to recognize that, as we ask for tightened control of the immigration process.

Otherwise we appear xenophopic or ingorant and the real message gets lost.

This "so called new show" should be renamed the "Tom Brokaw" show. I am tired of the news shows being treated as commentary shows.

Unfortunately, this man isnt representative of most illegal immigrants.

I doubt there are very many illegal immigrants in Austin or SanFran participating in these college anti-war rallies. In fact, I don't know any "true American" liberals that have ever worked as hard as the few illegal aliens I have suspected on job sites. I think this MARINE is certainly more-than-not representative of those hardworking hispanic illegals.

Like the Apodaca kid who demanded the taxpayers provide him with a college education but there was never any indication he had registered with the Selective Service. I think when an illegal is willing to fight for this country, they should gain legal residence and citizenship ----some illegals are far better than many legals. All the same ---I don't think we've heard yet that this guy is illegal, he may have been a US citizen when he died.

This man was a Puerto Rican who grew up in New York. He extended his tour in Veitnam twice to acheive US Citizenship. He died in a jeep accident on Feb 29, 1968. He was a good man.

Most people here at FreeRepublic encourage legal immigration and are grateful for those who want "to breathe free" and become Americans. This Marine hero was one of those.

What we don't want here are immigrants who come here illegally for the purpose of taking advantage of our social programs and who refuse to attempt to assimilate or who continue to support their homelands MORE than the United States. How hard is that for these people to understand?

generally speaking, the left's idea of dealing with generalities is to find an exception to the rule and proceed to deem the rule disproven....I say "generally speaking", because, of course, some leftists don't do this. But again, the exceptions do not disprove the rule.

Apparently very. In my mainly Hispanic neighborhood on 9/12, you could easily tell where the Cubans and (believe it or not) Puerto Ricans lived...their windows had American flags in them. You could just as easily tell where the Mexicans, Brazilians, Salvadorans/etc lived, their windows had Mexican, Brazilian, Salvadoran/etc flags in the windows. From my college days, I remember that the majority of double majors in Art Appreciation and Peace and Justice were lily-white liberals.

As a matter of fact, despite the constant liberal brainwashing, a large percentage of Hispanics in California voted to get rid of bilingual education and similar liberal crap.

The while liberals in this country use minorities to advance their socialist ideas.
