Sacramento Rally for America: The Chron Still Doesn't Get It

It seems that the mainstream media is finding it harder and harder to ignore the pro-America rallies that have been taking place with increasing regularity all over the country. Even the Chronicle, which, up until now has steadfastly refused to provide any coverage of these rallies (while at the same time providing nonstop coverage of anti-war activities), has jumped on the bandwagon. Still, their article about the Rally for America that took place in Sacramento on Saturday, 3/22, contains the usual sprinkling of liberal bias. As someone who took part in the 3000-strong Sacramento rally, I’d like to try and set the record straight.

Thanks. I wrote it, so I appreciate your comments. I really don't know how many Chron readers also read Chronwatch, but last we checked, we were getting 9000 hits a day, so somebody's getting the message!

good response. I didn't see the original article but most of these liberal papers also do "new math" when calculating the number of people at these rallies. For instance, if it's an anti-american rally they multiply by 10, while if it's support our troops rally they divide by 10.

What about the Examiner? What's their agenda, both regarding the war and generally? What does Mr. Hearst, wherever he is, think of this?

Well, the Examiner looks to be on its way out. It's now a free paper and people still don't want it! They've been a mixed bag politically speaking, but some of the worst, most venal, leftist crapola has been published in that paper. Even worse than the Chron if you can imagine that?

SF is just about a one-paper town and that one paper is the Chron---scary...

Thanks for the ping! I saw the Chron article yesterday and sent the writer an e-mail saying how they never question the Commies at ANSWER but seem to question us. I got a response from him which was basically a bunch of mindless word drool.

Since I have to work that night, I'll probably just keep it local and do a rally in San Jose.

EXCELLENT!!! We were there too. We found out about the rally from the list of rallies here at FreeRepublic.

I'm especially appreciative of you mentioning the "money" trail. Like you said, no one is asking where the money comes from for the anti-war rallies.

The mention of how these are NOT PRO WAR rallies was also very much appreciated. NO ONE "WANTS" war. We are PRO TROOPS and PRO President Bush, our Commander in Chief.

We understand that there are times we have to have war.

We were just mentioning after the rally, that we don't understand why some Americans are so selfish as to think THEY/WE are the only people in the world who DESERVE the kind of freedoms we enjoy here in America. But more than even that.. how about stopping people from being tortured, raped and murdered? I guess thats ok, as long as it isn't happening to them. (To think Iraqs weapons won't make it into the hands of people wanting to KILL AMERICANS on our own soil.. is the epitomy of being STUPID).

Would these anti-war demonstrators be against removing Hitler? Saving the lives of thousands upon thousands of Jews? Or how about the freedoms Germany, France and others in that region enjoy due to the sacrifice of our young men and women? If they could have stopped 9/11 BEFORE it happened.. would they have?

Our friends and Allies get it, and those who are marching with groups like International A.N.S.W.E.R, Workers World Party and Not in Our Name, do not.

The very FACT that those groups have organized so quickly, and massively around the world, ought to be the truly frightening thing to those marching with them. Considering what their AGENDA is and ALWAYS has been towards America and other free nations!!

I'm not a writer,.. nor am I very good at expressing myself well in this medium, but I'm very good at reading and what you wrote was well said and totally accurate. We were at the rally too...and it was the neatest cut of Americans, the most balanced cut of Americans that I've seen. It was the epitomy of a PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATION.

Now if we can just get the media to start covering it, so our troops can see it too!! We'll be sending newspaper articles with pictures (When we can find them) to our adopted troops along with their care packages.

Again.. thanks for writing such an awesome article!

Excellent. I think one thing that was left out was the Chron's less than tacit suggestion that the members of the Patriot Rally were all part of some extreme religious right. This is what really gets me about the liberal perspective on this. When I read Salladay's article, I could tell he tried to make the usual pretentiously detatched socialogical descriptions of the rally's references to God:

The rally included cheers for soldiers and veterans mixed with patriotic marches from John Philip Sousa and religious imagery. The opening prayer praised smart bombs and precision-guided missiles and included an exhortation that "our armies are dependent upon you (God) as the armies of Israel depended upon you in the past."

But when they cover the "anti-war" rallies, do these people discuss the blatant utopian New Age theology that drives many of those people? I'd like to see some reporter do a feature on these protestors, to see just what percentage of them practice Buddhism or Yoga on the side and have some vague hope that they're part of a movement toward spiritual enlightenment.
