Sean Astin Prays For Troops

Sean Astin prays for troops. Tehanu @ 6:36 am EST Sean Astin appeared on Joan and Melissa Rivers' miniature red carpet to send a message out to our troops in Iraq, via television. In short, he said that since the beginning of the war he got down on bended knee to pray for them, and that he's still praying for them and for a victory, and that he hopes for their safe return. Also, Joan and Melissa asked him if it was a disappointment to them (the LotR cast and crew) that Peter Jackson wasn't nominated. Sean replied by explaining that they had pretty much prepared themselves for disappointment with these films (implying that they are getting less credit than due). Overall, Sean was very serious and genuine, and kept a solemn air about him.

Sam: I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn't. Because they were holding on to something.

Frodo: What are we holding on to, Sam?

Sam: There's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it's worth fighting for.

Don't forget the Goonies....

Down here, it's our time. It's our time down here.

LOL - everytime Astin's name comes up, that's what I think.

Patty Duke is married to Sgt. Michael Pearce who was her technical drill instructor on a film. They were married in November of 1985.
Maybe that explains Sean's positive response to our troops.

Not sure how mom would respond though

I believe she feels the way he does. I know she moved up in our area in the Idaho panhandle to get away from Hollywood and has been very happy in this rather conservative area.

LOTR, especially 'The Two Towers' has a lot of propaganda value. It's all anti-pacifist, though.
"Those without swords can still die on them," and other warnings against appeasement are right up front :)

I don't know Patty's politics but I have heard John's opinions before on earlier issues. Even though I thought he was dead as of late, i'm told he isn't.

So what is the point of judging Sean Astin for the actions of his parents. We are not reporting the reactions of his parents'to our brave troops on the front lines of this battle. Troops, I might add, that need to hear any reports of encouagement and prayer that can be passed along.

This is about SOMEONE in Hollywood that cares, and is praying. He just wanted the troops to know this. I thank God for his stand, a stand I am sure is not easy in that particular environment.

The movie Gomez is dead. Maybe that's the source of the confusion.

Knew movie Ogmez was dead but had it in my mind John Astin was too. Glad I'm apparently wrong.

I think King Theoden's line of "How did it come to this?", in reference to how is it that Rohan is so close to the brink of destruction, is pretty damned applicable to current times as I find myself asking the same question. The answer being that nobody bothered to do anything about this evil when it was still a lesser threat. Like Rohan, we sat back and did nothing while this threat grew and grew til it reached the proportions which it did. Thankfully it hasn't reached "They are 10,000 strong" proportions, but the danger's pretty great with the threat of chemical, biological, and even nuclear weapons used on American soil.

I also liked Grima Wormtongue. Talk about the perfect representation of the Chirac/Schroeder position. The best part was when he asked for proof and Eomer through down a helmet with the white hand of Saruman on it (I.E. Powell went to the UN to present the evidence of Iraq's WMD's). Grima then ranted on about his being a warmonger. I'm surprised he didn't mention how bad Eomer was for wanting to launch a unilateral war against Saruman.
