Sean Astin prays for troops. Tehanu @ 6:36 am EST Sean Astin appeared on Joan and Melissa Rivers' miniature red carpet to send a message out to our troops in Iraq, via television. In short, he said that since the beginning of the war he got down on bended knee to pray for them, and that he's still praying for them and for a victory, and that he hopes for their safe return. Also, Joan and Melissa asked him if it was a disappointment to them (the LotR cast and crew) that Peter Jackson wasn't nominated. Sean replied by explaining that they had pretty much prepared themselves for disappointment with these films (implying that they are getting less credit than due). Overall, Sean was very serious and genuine, and kept a solemn air about him.

If a movie doesn't have propaganda value, it plain won't get an Oscar.

Does LotR have any propaganda value?

Sean Astin played a M1A1 tank gunner in the film Courage Under Fire, which takes place during the Gulf War. It was a small role but I suspect it gave him a good understanding of what our troops are experiencing now.

Scuse me. Thought Gomez had gone to the great cigar store in the sky and no I did not have him mixed up with the movie Gomez. Glad I was wrong. Liked him as Harry Anderson's dad on Night Court. Guess He's feeling Much Better.

He also played the lead role in "Toy Soldiers", in which an expensive prep school for chronic troblemakers was taken over by terrorist types. Kind of a dumb movie, but I wouldn't doubt it affected his way of thinking.
