If a movie doesn't have propaganda value, it plain won't get an Oscar.
Does LotR have any propaganda value?

Sean Astin played a M1A1 tank gunner in the film Courage Under Fire, which takes place during the Gulf War. It was a small role but I suspect it gave him a good understanding of what our troops are experiencing now.
To: mstar
Sean Astin is a CASA -- "Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army".

His dad is Gomez Adams so dont speak French around him...and the Dad of Judge Harry Stone on "Night Court"
His Ma is Patty Duke from ...the Patty Duke show..and Valley of the Dolls...and a whole load of Lifetime for Broads movies.. ;)
To: mstar
Patty Duke is married to Sgt. Michael Pearce who was her technical drill instructor on a film. They were married in November of 1985.
Maybe that explains Sean's positive response to our troops.

Yay, I guess this cancels out what's-his-face that plays Aragorn.

Add this boy to the "good" list! (It's a short list!)

Sean Astin was wonderful when EWTN interviewed the cast for TTT. He brushed aside the idea that Sam was the greater hero saying (about Frodo) "It's much harder to suffer."

'Celebs' Use Stardom to Promote Army
Xoanon @ 2:27 pm EST
WASHINGTON -- Actor Sean Astin and wrestler Bradshaw are among celebrities who are using their stardom to increase troop morale and keep the military fresh in the minds of Americans.
Astin, who is known for his roles in "Rudy" and the "Lord of the Rings," visited the Pentagon Jan. 30 to record public service announcements thanking troops for their service and re-emphasizing America's trust in its military

Wow, what bold witness by Sean Astin. God bless him!
I've also been very impressed with things I've read about Elijah Wood.
These are two actors to definitely watch for in the future.

Astin seems to have his head on straight, which is unusual for a Hollywood brat.
And don't forget, he was Mikey in the Goonies.

Well, if it makes Sean feel any better, Lord of the Rings was the leading vote getter for "The Ronnies", given to the best picture of the year that presents a conservative view of the world.
This award is named after Ronald Reagan and was invented by yours truly last week. See

Thank you for posting this, mstar - thank you, Sean Astin! Thanks for the ping, Pip!
