... Gutierrez wanted to give the United States what the United States gave to him. He came with nothing. This country gave him everything.

Touching article. God bless this marine.
Hopefully the LA Times will profile some of the other heros killed in the recent fighting as well.

Thank you for posting this. I knew a lot of Guatemalan immigrants in my parish when I lived in California, and they were all enormously grateful to the US and were really committed citizens. Of course, the left exalts liars such as Rigoberta Menchu, but the LatAm reality was very different.
Prayers for this brave Marine and his family.

He came to America, quickly learned English, and volunteered for the Marines last year. We'd be in great shape if all the immigrants did what this man did ---unfortunately some will try to use this man's death to promote other agendas ---and agendas he himself probably did not have.

I am sorry any of our folks are dead or captured. However, in my opinion, he was an illegal alien. Joining the military is a way around the system to gain legal status. If I am wrong, I apologize. I do think that he will have helped discourage the unarmed invasion of our country. ...as a teenager, he "Like thousands of other Central American immigrants, Marine Lance Cpl. Jose Gutierrez made the dangerous 2,000-mile journey from his native Guatemala, across Mexico and over the border into Southern California as a teenager." His first contact here was welfare.
Again, I am sorry he is gone. However, in my world, we would not have had a Saddam nor illegal immigrants. Hopefully, part of my world will return and the other is a hope.

He was an illegal alien border jumper but I give him credit for making the ultimate sacrifice. The downside are the millions of illegals who have ZERO allegiance to the USA.
I honor him but not the LATimes which is an advocate for illegal immigration.

Semper Fidelis. Would that our american-born youth comport themselves half as well as this young Marine.

This just reduced me to tears...not only in sadness but in pride. My grandfather came here with nothing and made his own way also and gave back all he could. God bless this fine young man and may he rest in peace.

Story very similar to Miguel Estrada.
I'm loving these new immigrants to our country.
