Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

I thought Napolean Solo and Illya Kuriakan had retired from U.N.C.L.E. long ago!

Ever know any journalism students in college? They're now reporters. Oh, yes. Full of idealism about fighting for truth, justice, not necessarily the American way.
Question to anyone who may know... is there a place the names of the wounded are being posted? My husband was just told a good friend of his MAY have been wounded and I can't find any information.

1. Abide strictly by the Geneva Convention.
A prohibited target looses that designation if used for military purposes by either combatant. The Combatant that uses them is criminally liable.
2. The use of a flag of surrender that is used to instigate a combat action is a violation of the convention. Which renders the party attack from having to recognize attempts to surrender.
The US court-martialed a Pilot during Viet Nam for this very thing. He had been shot down and had surrendered but not been disarmed. A rescue helicopter showed up about this time he drew his sidearm and shot one of his captors. The helicopter got him out but he was Court Martialed and found guilty a sentenced to prison.
Here is something I posted on another thread.
War is not a place for politicians. They may be handy before or after but never during. The battlefield is not a place for compromise but a place for rapid response to a very fluid situation with the goal of surviving the minute not worrying about what the other guy will think about you 10 years from now.
This country has been using a war doctrine of War by PR for to long. All of the high tech gadgets in the world does you no good if you will not use them. We have been trying to win the hearts and minds of the enemy for to long, it doesnt work. The goal of limiting civilian casualties is a grand goal, but the main part is limiting not none at any cost.
I say grab the SOBs by the balls and squeeze until they start begging our forgiveness then squeeze some more before even acting like we hear them.
Those that want to be friends ok. To those that betray that trust see above with the added stipulation when we let go of yours they will be firming in place in your mouth.

Thanks, mw11. You're right, of course. They are distracting and infuriating...which makes them a threat to our troops and our country...dang. These Clymers care so much about the American people that after election 2002 we got two weeks of Nancy Pelosi. Consumer confidence must be incredibly weakened - not by doubt in our troops, or our President - but by Americans solidly behind the war effort watching their once-trusted reporters believing 'Achmed the Village Liar'.

We had to put up with CNN International when we were in Germany. It was really awful after 911. It was obvious that they blamed the U.S. for the terrorism. I couldn't abide it and thank heavens we had the internet.

Shepard Smith said, during his interview portion w/Sean Hannity, that although he didn't mean to make it sound like he was tooting their own horn, he thinks that considering this is Fox News first war of this type, he doesn't think they've done too badly. He said that going 24/7 with all of the incoming and outgoing links to so many areas has been handled w/o too many 'hitches'.
I agree with him.
