***Operation Iraqi Freedom - Situation Room - Day 5 - LIVE THREAD***
Everywhere! | 23 Mar 2003 | An.American.Expatriate

Good Morning.

This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.

It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.

Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:

To all who helped this get started, thank you!

Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Hey all. Just got back from class and a so-called debate on Iraq. All three speakers were against the war and did not like Bush. It was a waste of my time.

Can somebody give me a quick recap of what's going on? Last I saw this morning were a ton of sirens going off in Kuwait, and footage of the Apache on the ground.

If the leftist media was winning this PR war, our President wouldn't have a 72% approval rating, imo.

Bingo!

Well stated...

I am NOT convinced that if Iraqi TV goes down, CNN wouldn't offer to step in to fill the void. Could be their ticket back into the country. And I view them in about the same light.

"I know they make replacement knees. Do they make replacement shoulders too? You're gonna need one if you go past about 100 rds with that 03A3."

Here's how it went:
Bang!... Ouch...
Bang!... Ooooowwww!
Bang!... Ouch...
Bang!... Owwwwww!
Repeat as necessary.

Damned accurate rifle.

CNN is announcing that contrary to what the DOD had requested re: NOT airing the video of the interrogation of the POW's, they WILL air the video. Here it is.

Tons of human shields protecting the Iraqi tv stations.

I suppose we could cut the lines without bombing/killing innocents, but I am not sure.

Probably on a practical level, taking out their TV transmitting capability would be the thing to do. I'm pretty sure we will soon do that.

However, on a personal level for the POWs, their chances of survival probably go up after the whole world has seen them on tape.

Well, you have a point. However, CNN would have to get there on their own.

I think take it out, along with a covert operation on Al Jazeera. By the time they got up and running, and by the time CNN got into Iraq (pretty tough since we control the road to Baghdad from Jordan), we could be a lot further along toward victory.

"...very soon.....loose lips and all that.."

Very good, I can deal with that... but don't you think it'll be all over the media when they arrive & they must transit many areas that the bad guys will be watching - so I doubt it'll be a big surprise.

But, yeah, I can wait - just would feel alot better knowing these guys had the 4th in theatre as a reserve (while preparing to advance).

I don't know if this has been posted yet, but I'm hearing on WLS in Chicago that the two apache helo pilots are being shown on Iraqi TV. They didn't speak the camera and look "confused" according the report I heard.

The "reporters" sit in their arrogant ivory towers telling us how this war SHOULD be fought. I have yet to hear of one of these perfume princes/princesses volunteer to do a damn thing for anyone else. I'll stick with these guys & gals any time rather than the know-it-alls who don't have a clue!

A U.S. Marine is carried to a waiting ambulance after sustaining injuries in an Iraqi attack at Camp Viper in the Iraqi desert. Several Marines were injured when their armored personnel carrier was hit by an Iraqi rocket-propelled grenade near the city of Nasiriyah.

"if Iraqi TV goes down..."

I'm wondering if they are leaving it up on purpose:

* It does provide intel
* As events deviate from coverage more and more of the populace may get the message to rise up...
* others?

Still, I can't help thinking that a "commander solo" doing the feed would help change minds sooner...

Most, if not all, have only a liberal arts background from liberal schools where they learned to parrot their liberal professors.

Ahem......I majored in English (minor in psychology, even), from a liberal arts college.....and there's nothing wrong with me (with me) with me.
