Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, mhking for the video links, and, of course, Belly Girl...

Interesting discussion of this on NPR this morning (I know, but I can't pick up any AM stations during my commute). Red Cross and company have camps ready for 300K refugees. So far, have taken in 14. Not 14K, 14. Said Iraqis poorer than in '91, don't have means to flee. And that Saddam stocked each family with a month's worth of food. Once the food runs out, all bets are off on the number of refugees. Or if bombs start falling on neighborhoods (which, of course, isn't likely to happen).

Thanks. Another call to prayer?

a quagmire
Well, in Afghanistan, the q-word surfaced around the 4th day. At least in this Iraq phase, it waited until the 5th day.
Didn't Clinton say we'd be out of Kosovo by Christmas of 199?

The disingenous ones are the ones who are quickly realizing that they are fast becoming irrelevant.

Steve Centani of Fox was with the Seals that secured those off-shore oil depots. He said they had Polish commandos with them.

I am hoping we operate EXACTLY on that level in regards to the U.N.
A food/medicine conduit. An expanded Red Cross. Let those two agencies duke it out for supremacy.
I am NOT seeing Kofi understand that will be their role in the future(I hope).

We should take a poll on which one of the big three - Blather, Brokejaw or Petah first says the word "quagmire". Someone will have to report on the actual results becuase I have not actually watched the SOB's for several years now. My vote is for Brokejaw.

FN: Greg Kelly w/ 1st Marines, 3rd Div. : Second brigade combat team from Ft. Stewart Georgia has been under fire for the second day in a row. A mortar attack that came extremely close. Greg asks Marine how the sporadic resistance effects their progress. "We haven't lost a minute, yet." "Morale is outstanding." "Our soldiers are much more tenacious and much better trained." Greg, "I can vouch for that." Local militia in the area, ill-trained, but well-equipped.

The commentator on Fox brought it -- the q-word -- up about 8 minutes ago to a guest he was interviewing. Fox wins.
