Operation Infinite FReep: Support Our Troops, F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Cheyenne WY, 3-23-03

A moral boosting effort today was successful outside the main gate of F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne this afternoon as FReepers, VFW, and fine citizens of Wyoming and Colorado converged on the base. There were no peace-niks to be seen and BIG GRINS were coming from everyone..........

My jaw still hurts from all the grinning I did as the troops and their families drove past us all waving and honking. Freepers from all over Northern Colorado and Cheyenne gathered today along with members of VFW Post 1781 of Fort Collins,CO. and many people from around the Cheyenne area. We occupied the large median in front of the main gate to the air base and got to see tons of our fine military in person and express our thanks.

The weather was very nice for Cheyenne today and we had a great time. I cannot express my thanks enough to the fine city of Cheyenne and their STRONG pro-military attitude. What a nice place to visit and FReep! It sure is a change of pace for most of us that are used to having it out with the leftists week after week.

FReepers in attendance were CardCarryingMemberVastRightWC and family (We finally got to meet his spouse!), weldgophardline and family, fivetoes, mollynme, softengine and two fine sons, and Cheyenne FReeper Lesco and family (I hope I spelled it right, WELCOME to our little band of patriots!). VFW members present were Terry, Joe and Terry. All in all we had about 50 people on the median all holding signs and waving flags.

We had CBS Channel 5 TV from Cheyenne come and visit and interviewed several of us and filmed our rally. The local newspaper also came to photograph us and interviewed several for an article. The funniest thing, one of the newspaper people asked me if there was any trouble going on. He told me that the police scanner said twenty minutes earlier that there was a report that our rally was getting out of hand, LOL! I guess they were hoping for some sort of civil disobedience to cover. I could tell that the reporter was not too thrilled to find out that we were just a bunch of law abiding citizens doing our duty by supporting our troops. I never saw any police until the very end when they came by and honked and waved. One State Trooper came by a gave us a little siren action and was grinning also.

weldgopharline and spouse, along with fivetoes climbed up the embankments of the I-25 overpass and got all the truckers honking with their "HONK FOR OUR TROOPS" sign and Old Glory waving in the wind. It sure sounded great down where we were! I think you guys were having a lot of fun up there.

It warms my heart to see the families of the troops driving by with their spirits boosted by our efforts. This is why we came and it was well worth it. There was a spouse and family of a deployed Air Force member that joined us. I heard they were from Texas and found out about our rally on the internet. She came up to me as she was leaving and told me how much it meant to her to be able to join us. It made my day.

I was shocked today by how people found out about our rally. On couple told me they saw it on a link to rallies on NewsMax.com, another couple told me they saw it on a link from DR. Laura's website. This just goes to show you how powerful the internet is to our grassroots efforts. WOW!!

We took lots of pictures and hopefully we can get them up soon. THANKS TO ALL WHO CAME AND THANK YOU TROOPS!!

I was stationed at FE Warren during Desert Storm - the military/community relationship was very good. I thoroughly enjoyed my four years there and am glad the community continues to support the base.

Hey! I like that "KEEP RIGHT" sign. Who made that? Is that your sign, Fivetoes?

Maybe that's why Cheyenne's so friendly, eh? No "Keep Left" signs anywhere to be seen.

WeldGOPhardline and son and wife up on overpass :

Fivetoes planting flag on Mt. Suribachi :

My wife, Mom, sister and daughter, plus a couple whose name I didn't catch.

We had quite a nice crowd!

Better shot of Trteamer's sign. He's looking away again. I would have digitized your face in to the photo, Doug, but ran out of time. Sorry.

Two grandma's! The one on the left came with her husband from some small Wyoming town starting with an "H". They have *FOUR* family members in the military - in the mideast or about to be shipped there. A son, a son in law, and a grandson and granddaughter if I remember correctly. Wow!

Enroll them in Freepergarten early! What cuties, eh? Sorry I didn't get their names :

Here's their youngest sibling :

Mollynme and my Dad on the right.

Fivetoes taking photos.

Weld's oldest showing off his newly acquired prized possession!

His Mom wanted to try it on and boy, did she ever have a hard time wresting it away from his cold dead fingers! He did NOT want to give that up, even for a second. Heh heh!
People came by and dropped off a bag of assorted snack foods and candy. And of course you already heard about the hat. What a nice town! I'll bet it's not easy being in the military today of all days, what with all the new casualties, not to mention seeing ripped-up bodies of your comrades on TV!! I'm glad we could do our part to bring a tiny bit of cheering up to them.
