Camp As Sayliyah, Qatar-AP -- U-S military officials say troops are encountering some deceptive tactics by Iraqis.
They say in one case, a group of Iraqis displayed a surrender flag -- and then, when U-S troops moved to accept the surrender, the Iraqis opened up with artillery fire.
They say in another episode, some Iraqi troops dressed in civilian clothes appeared to welcome the arriving coalition forces -- and then ambushed them.
Military commanders say the tactics are dangerous to coalition troops -- but that they won't stand in the way of the success of the mission in Iraq.

We at war and are going to get hammered in the media regardless. Better Iraqi towns are destroyed rather than 1 US solider dies. (sadly donning flame suit)

I completely agree with you on this.

"....political tampering with the war". Correctamundo, KB.
I'm beginning to smell political correctness in some aspects of this war.
I hope to God that PC isn't as embedded in the minds of our military and civilian planners as it presently is in the minds of too many leftists and touchy-feely Americans.

We don't know that. However one of the top brass better have enough balls to advise Bush to cut out the hanky panky as its failure and danger is evident. If not they're even more complicit.

"Using this ruse violates the LOAC and will get some people some serious prison time post war."Screw that! A short time at the end of a rope is appropriate.

This is bad news for us. I agree with this and with everything else you said.
All I'm saying is that it is even worse news for Iraqi civilians.
To: FairOpinion
This will result in more civilian deaths, as if the Iraqis care.

Bush has made a grave error ...Unless you know the war plans and are better briefed on them than the President and Centcom, you should refrain from embarrassing yourself with opinions based on ignorance.

F%^& Iraqi civilians. Our raison d'etre is to remove the Iraqi WMD threat. Period. We should act like that and renounce the temptation to appear as liberators. Or rather Bush should though his idiotic move through the UN must be causing him to go that route. Millions on earth live under dictators and we're not freeing them which could be construed as an "unfeeling but necessary" policy. Well destroying Iraqi soliders with major civilians casualties in order to save US soliders lives and quickly ascertain the location of WMD is yet another "unfeeling" policy we MUST enact.

The answer is, if you are an Iraqi civilian, do not approach coalition forces. Stay in your home and wait for the red cross, or whatever aid agency is heading your way in the next 24 hours or so.

Nope thats info I haven't been privy to but its pretty self evident as to what Bush's war plans have resulted in. Either his plans have become sidetracked and should be altered or they're going as planned which if the case showcases failure.

someone on FNC just said this might be some iraqis surendersing, then other iraqis ambushing, i.e. uncoordinated, no ruse, just someone ruining it for the smart ones. That would be my best guess.
Since it's not cold out during the day, all surrenders should be accomplshed without clothing, to prevent weapons concealment. Sounds weird, but it should work.

"We need to stage a phony retreat.."
The Iraqi's (and even democrats) are not dumb enough to believe we would have cause to retreat. Well, maybe the dems would. The french would for sure.

If not they're even more complicit.Let's see now. On a day when Americans have died in battle, you feel it your duty to slander their officers and their Commander in Chief. If you bothered to keep up with the news, you would know that some serious bombing has taken place today.

Let's keep a little perspective here. This war is still going extremely well. We want them to keep surrendering. The perpetrators of this attack obviously don't want that. Why should we ditch a highly successful policy just because of a few incidents that didn't go our way? It's war! Nothing in life ever goes as planned, least of all war. But so far, this is going about as close to planned as any war can be expected to.

This is about much more than WMD...it is about the future, and the triumph of one idea over another
We'll cinch our belts, grit our teeth and move on, more cautious, just as humane.
I'll cut Dubya and our military as much slack as they need...bless 'em all.

The troops are half way to Baghdad. You call that failure? What great knowledge do you possess that would have moved our forces farther, faster?
