I don't believe we have enough ground forces to sustain a two pronged advance. Both prongs would be unable to support the other or exploit a success. Ralph Peters has repeatedly written that the one area he feels Rumsfeld is plainly wrong is in his failure to recognize the need for ground troops well armed and equipped. We're now invading a country with a degraded, though dangerous, military with four divisions. Two of them essentially light infantry. I do not think you can advance at high speed and fully protect your line of supply in a nation as large as Iraq with four divisions. When we went in in '91 we attacked with three corps, each with three or four divisions.

We'd best get 4ID there ASAP and if any of the Stryker Brigades are deployable we should consider doing so. We need boots on the ground.

True. A large northern front may be impossible due to the large logistics footprint it may require from an unwavering Turkey.

I will believe Rumsfeld before I believe STRATFOR on assessing our progress. I don't see how STRATFOR has any inside scope on the war plan.

My 2 cents.

Many of the 4th ID's ships have traversed the Suez Canal and should be docking in Kuwait in 24 to 36 hours or so. There is 2 more heavy divisions in the pipe line as follow on forces.

With that being said, I'm a little concerned about the long logistics trail. However, I think the Iraqis are not going to be effective at interdicting our supply line effectively. They may win a few propaganda points for there State TV scheduling, but thats it.

They tried it today at An Naslriyah and lost. A battalion of Iraqis vs. 1 Marine Brigade who are watching the backs of the spearhead to Bahgdad. There is at least a Marine division task to cover it.
