Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, and, of course, Belly Girl...

I agree. Baghdad is going to be a den of vipers. There are some who are glad that Saddam will be gone but like you pointed out, many have been brainwashed and conditioned to life with Saddam. There are a lot of American hating Arabs in Iraq besides those in power.
To: Diddle E. Squat
Yah, Diddly, I don't understand Greta and the rest.
Saddam has his agents all over southern Iraq, including members of the Fedayeen Saddam, the Mukhabarat, and our friends from the Ba'athist militia.
The people aren't going to commit themselves until they see that the regime is on its way out. Why would they do so until they see that we are going to take care of business? As long as we make clear to the people that we will only be there temporarily and that we are not there to take their wealth or their nation, then we'll be okay in the long run.
Remember: Saddam's regime depends on fear and lies. No state founded on these two principles can endure forever.
Be Seeing You,
Chris

You notice that Michael Moore is in Hollyweird to accept an award when he could be doing something useful, like hugging an electric pole as a human shield in Bagdad. Actions speak louder than words.

Funniest if you're REALLY tired:
Deep thought: I know what you're probably saying, "We should banish all Democrats to the coldest moon of Neptune!" And, while that is the first most logical response, I think Democrats can be important to the future of America... but only if they're buried deep in the ground such that they become oil for future Americans.
Democrats will probably object to be buried in the ground, whining, "Don't bury me in the ground; that's mean spirited." But, in the end, they will have to do what we say since we have many many more guns.
