Good Morning.
This is the Daily Thread of Operation Iraqi Freedom - LIVE THREAD.
It is designed for general conversation about the events of the day. In depth discussion of events should be left to individual threads - but links to the threads or other articles is highly encouraged. This allows us to stay abreast of the situation in general, while also providing a means of obtaining specific information.
Please have mercy on us dial up limited FReepers! Limit the big graphics, post links instead. A breif description of what the graphic is would help:
To all who helped this get started, thank you!
Special thanks to An.American.Expatriate for staring the daily threads, Mo1 for the screamer, the AdminMods for their tolerance, and, of course, Belly Girl...

CNN reporter.... Iraqi's dressed as civilians and walking by the Americans under white flags have combat observers enbedded with the civilians and are calling in artillery on our forces as they walk by..Dumb question, how would CNN know this?

MSNBC is reporting that around ten soldiers in Nasiriyah have been taken prisoner. I guess some who were caught in the RPG attack.

Can anyone tell me why only 4 days into this war we are engaging our ground troops in heavy fighting? What happened to overwhelming force by air taking out most of the problems, then the troops cleaning up?
To: austex
We had a little fake out via Iraqi news they had soldiers playing it up to camaras shooting at something/nothing at the Tigres banks and then acting like they were smoking someone out of the reeds damn near lit there own civilians on fire. Allot of arm waving like they got something and then it all fizzled have not heard boo since about 5a.m. Left Coast time.

The Sky News fellow is either being a shmuck because he wants to keep his status there in Iraq, or he is under duress. He does sound increasingly more shrill, but I can't figure out exactly why.Fear Terror will do that...

MSNBC has taken down the news alert about soldiers in Nasiriyah being captured. Hope it's because the net screwed up.

Morning all. So the soldiers got lost and inadvertently captured, not during actual combat? Is this report correct, I hadn't heard that yet.

On Fox this morning, the guy they were interviewing had to tow the Iraq line in his reporting of these supposed downed pilots in the river. Fox person asked him if he could answer questions, and he would reply if he couldn't answer it and answered that he had a minder with him always.
To: prairiebreeze
Not all news stations are reporting this. Only a few so not too sure if this is accurate or not yet.

I´m not living in LaLa Land, I live in Deutschland!
And I get more and more the impression that your words "We'll do our damndest not to harm civilians" is the same like my sentence "the US can reach their aims without harming the Iraqi people".
The US will not break the convention of Geneve in case the Iraqis torture American POW´s. I´m pretty sure that the US Armend Forces will take revenge, but they´re going to punish the leadership.

because we are not trying to destroy Iraq. the mission is to topple the Baathist regime. We could carpet bomb Baghdad. we could slaughter the whole lot of them. That is not the mission. I personally think we are doing the right thing. It will take a bit longer, there will be casualties, but the ends justify the means. Kim Jong Il is watching... and so are billions of potential enemies. Best we keep them at worst neutral at best future allies.
