Any military guys here with the correct info on this? Depends on how they prosecute this -- if they just go with Attempted murder - then it is life in Leavenworth.
BUT since they are in a Combat Zone, Under the UCMJ this would qualify as treason (attempted murder of CO) -- and that is a execution offence in the military.

Pvt. Solvack (sp) was shot in WW2 for desertion I believe. Of course we can ask Martin Sheen, he played him in the movie.
Also believe he was last solder shot by military for that charge.

I'm an ex military guy. I don't know how executions are handled under the rules of the UCMJ. I would speculate that hanging is no longer an option.
What I will say is that I hope that the trial and, hopefully, the execution take place in the field and very quickly, before the likes of Calypso Louie, Jessee Jackson, the NAACP, CAIR, Conyers, and all the other usual suspects have time to gin up the ignorant opposition.
