The Support Our Troops Rally in Stuart, FL drew an overwhelming response from traffic and produced an enthusiastic, impressive display of community support for our US and allied troops. Over a hundred folks turned out for the grassroots rally designed to elicit a consensus from rush-hour traffic, to provide pics which can be emailed to the troops and to obtain media coverage, and newspaper stories that could be sent to the troops to show support from the homefront. I'm just starting to post pics that you can email to the troops- click on image to see gallery...more coming.
Inexplicitly, (or I should say- predictably)- stories about the rally appearing in both Palm Beach Post (n.a. online) or the Stuart News are so spun with neutral or "anti-war" sentiment that they provide better aid and comfort to the enemy than contribute to the morale of our troops. The coverage by the Palm Beach reporter- Libby Wells, was as liberal-biased as the previous day's reporting by Christine Selvaggi (see Thursday update below) with the former's story leading off with a quote from someone from from the Treasure Coast Peace Coalition (one of some two dozen "anti-war demonstrators present) suggesting that the only reason the SOT people weren't threatening them was the presence of the media. Of course Wells had absolutely no knowledge that protestors had at any time during the past 7 weeks of demonstrating ever been subjected to any harassment by anyone in this community- but she set the tone of her perspective on our rally by implying that the SOT people were potentially threatening. Apparently she took no note of a husky young peacenik lugging three- heavy signs made of 1/2-inch plywood (each measuring 2x3 feet) who elbowed his way in the midst of an established group of SOT demonstrators to block their view to traffic. When I talked to Ms. Wells the previous day, while she was reporting on the little march the peaceniks were about to stage downtown, it was clear to me that she had virtually NO knowledge whatsoever about the organizations sponsoring the domestic and global "anti-war" demonstrators. If you can believe it, she had never heard of A.N.S.W.E.R. or Not In Our Name...nor the PatriotsforPeace.org I mean- Duhhh!- is it conceivable this reporter can portray an event such as our rally with any fairness or accuracy- starting out with a complete ignorance of the subject?! We assume headlines try to capture some essential truth of the story and in what had to be a deliberate attempt to mock the rally, the News sniggered- "Dozens Display Military Support" and the accuracy and objectivity goes downhill from there. Apparently, due to their personal bias, neither reporter seems to appreciate that "support our troops" is explicitly NOT synonymous with "military support" and "war supporters".
Rest assured that with no help from either our local Rat Media or the ridiculous prominence that the national media are giving to- DOZENS of "anti-war" demonstrators"- in a nation with a population in the hundreds of millions- we will get the word out to the troops that the grassroots of this nation are behind you with their thanks and blessings for your willingness to suffer the ultimate sacrifice for our security and freedom and that you are indeed our heroes.
Support Our Troops Rally will demonstrate again next Friday unless Saddam's regime has been totally removed by then- and every Friday for the duration of Operation Iraq Liberation- Stuart, South end of Roosevelt Bridge, 4-6:30. SEE PREVIOUS UPDATES BELOW
