Nearly 300 war protestors gathered in Jefferson Square in downtown Louisville on Thursday March 20th. I'd given the heads up to the Kentucky FReepers and informed them of my intention to FReep the peaceniks. I showed up at the north corner of Jefferson and 6th streets and was greeted by FReeper johnpq and five other folks who wanted to express their support for our Troops. The police officers on our corner informed us we were free to express our opinion of the protestors but we needed to stay on our side of the street. I brought Old Glory and several posters I had made but everyone already had a sign of their own. For two hours we FReeped the peaceniks with numbers varying from five to as many as fifteen. As for the peaceniks they had a group of bicyclists doing a "Critical Mass" bike ride around the block several times blocking traffic and really making motorists behind them very angry. Many of these guys had black bandanas over their faces so of course we challenged them to show their faces and stop being cowards. What a bunch of knuckleheads. Meanwhile the protest across the street had pacifists beating their homemade pickle bucket drums and the usual hateful drivel that we're all familiar with so I won't go into detail. After the speeches they picked up a casket and marched around the park! Hilarious! Of course we were hollering that they were having a funeral for their great leader Saddam. LOL! After that they started having a "die-in" acompanied by some droning oration that was supposed to be mocking President Bush. As they lay down we were really whooping it up and laughing at them, taunting them saying they were tired of protesting and had to have nappy time but they forgot their woobies! After two hours they started to disperse but we stayed till the last one left. The hornhonking for us was great but the greatest moment came when two soldiers who'd just graduated from basic training at Ft. Knox drove by us and gave the big thumbs up. After parking nearby they walked over to join us for a few minutes. In their dress green uniforms they were a poignant reminder why we were out there to show our appreciation for our military. A Navy recruiter in uniform drove by and slowed to offer several hornhonks and thumbs up to us. We proved the FReeper adage that one FReeper or Patriot is equal to 100 peaceniks any day! Many people stopped by our position to thank us for standing up for our Troops and some even picked up a sign and FReeped with us for a few minutes. I told everyone that joined us about FR. I also put out the word about the Rally for America at the VFW Post #5421 on Saturday. As an end to this let me share this with you. Last night after the 11 o'clock news ABC went back to it's coverage from Iraq and Ted Koppel was describing how the main body of the 3rd Infantry Division was negotiating the berm complex at the Kuwait/Iraq border and spreading out on the Iraqi side into their battle formation. Behind him were columns of M1 Abrams tanks and Bradley Fighting Vehicles on the move into Iraq. The 3rd I.D. was my old unit when I was stationed at Ft. Stewart, GA and I could not be prouder to have been a former Marne soldier. They need our support and they're getting it from us here on freerepublic.com.
