How does everyone win this war?
Easy. Saddam and family are granted secret exile and billions for the duration of their lives. US military claim to 'decapitate' him in cruise missile attack. Military never claims to have positive proof, just in case Saddam double-crosses them and re-emerges.
1) US wins by winning war with minimal death. There is no need for a messy decision about how to handle Saddam for war trial, etc. It does not look good to give billions to Saddam for exile after claiming he is a horrible monster (which he probably is).
2) Saddam and family win by preserving life, reaping billions, never held accountable for anything, get new identities and new makeovers. Regular exile would make Saddam look like a wimp and would never guarantee total freedom from accountability.
3) Media moguls win by having short, interesting, successful war which has huge ratings, but does not get boring.
4) Bush wins for obvious reasons.
Can you handle this truth? No. But why not? It makes perfect sense for all involved. I say, 'Hooray' for Bush and US military for thinking of this beautiful plan to save life and liberate Iraq!
I say, 'Get Real' to the sheeple who can not handle the truth.

In everything you have ever seen and heard about Saddam, what makes you think this is what he wants?
He is all about weilding power...
To: Silas
i posted this yesterday (along with some others) in a different thread. it would be like the "witness protection" program for Saddam. He avoids a public, voluntary exile by staging his death, and we agree to get him out of the country.

Fails Ozcams razor. You get all that by just killing him.
To: Silas

I did not see that. Good thinking. It is amazing how many sheep are on this board. They do not have the capacity to think that such a deal could be struck. Why the h*ll is is such a stretch to think that a deal was made? It is not like little green Martians running around taking over the world. It is simply a practical, sensible deal. But the sheep can't deal with anything unless it is spoon-fed to them from some guy with a deep voice and 'good hair'.

no we don't. if he has some "dead mans switch" on the WMDs (most notably the anthrax), then we gain alot by not killing him. he avoids a humiliating exile, he "dies" a martyr at the hands of the americans, he lives peacefully someplace, we get iraq, bush gets re-elected.

I haven't had enough coffee yet this morning to fully digest this possibility. My first thought is that its a good theory, but there is way too much ego between Saddam and his 2 sons. Somehow they could not go quietly. Its similar to having the Mafia bosses go into the witness protection program. The real flamboyant ones can't deal with the quiet and mundane.

Everybody wins? So we reward a mass murderer with money and no punishment?
Think about it.

Four problems:
1) Hiding Saddam and family would be like hiding Elvis. Someone would know.
2) Saddam was offered luxurious exile just a couple of days ago, and turned it down. Given Saddam's ego, he would much prefer to make some grand gesture like he was stepping aside for the sake of peace than slink off in the night.
3) If what Saddam wanted was safe exile, wouldn't it be safer to have a whole world as witness to the agreement than to agree to disappear? He would have no protection against someone making him disappear for good, and with a secret deal to keep secret, there would be a lot of incentive for someone to do that.
4) If the point was to avoid the need for a massive campaign, his cronies wouldn't go to great lengths to then pretend he's still alive, especially when it looks like we're heading for substantially heavier bombing today.

Mundane? I don't think so. Imagine the freedom that these guys would have. New identity. Slightly altered look (shaved head, goatee, whatever, new American passport with new identity). Billions to spend in western countries with women, women, women or whatever turns them on. This is the type of freedom and wild times that they could not even have dreamed of before. Don't underestimate billions.
