Couric Collaborates in Rehabilitation of Tiny Tom Daschle
The Today Show

Tiny Tom Daschle just concluded an interview with Katie Couric on The Today Show.
Katie's clear intent: damage control for the diminutive Daschle in the wake of his odious criticism, on the eve of War, of President Bush's diplomacy.
While it was necessary for purposes of Katie's strategy to replay Daschle's intemperate remarks, before she even began her questioning she replayed some conciliatory and supportive comments Daschle made yesterday on the Senate floor.
Only then did Couric begin her questioning. Now imagine that a Republican had been on the hot seat in similar circumstances. Katie's first question would have undoubtedly been along the lines: "on the eve of war, with American men and women about to go into harm's way, don't you think it was harmful to their morale to undermine the leadership of their Commander in Chief?"
But instead of framing the question in terms of the unpatriotic nature of Daschle's remarks, Couric passed them off as just more wrangling between political parties.
Thus her first question was:
"Do you think this will create a chasm between Dems and Republicans?" This gave Daschle the opening to talk about the resolution unanimously passed by the Senate supporting the troops and the Commander in Chief.
That was it, the totality of Katie's "grilling" of Daschle on what was arguably the most despicable statement by a major political leader in a time of war since WWII.
From there, it was on to happy talk for the two: a mutual love-in of budget and tax-cut bashing.
Thus Katie's next question was: "Some are outraged that Bush budget sets aside $700 billion in tax cuts but nothing for costs of war."
And Katie went on to observe some "moderates" want to cut the tax cut in half. So tax-and-spend liberal opponents of Pres. Bush are magically transformed into "moderates".
Katie concluded with this "hard-hitting" question: "What is major question you would like to ask President?"

Why oh why does anybody, anywhere watch Katie Kouric?

I think you're assuming something about Daschle that is not in evidence!

What was it that Ann Coulter called her? The "Eva Braun of broadcast journalism"? How fitting.

It took more than a score of posts, but there's the inevitable question: why watch Katie and her cohorts?
As I invariably answer, I do it out of a combo of masochism and a desire to keep track, and report back to FReeperville, on what the other side is up to. Call it parachuting behind opposition media lines.

Katie Couric, Helen Thomas, Julie Woolruff, even Charlie and Dan all extremely liberal and biased and still support a man so dire a president of the US, he beggars description. These people do not report the news or ask the honest questions of their guests, they make their opinions the only truth their poor viewers ever hear. Daschle, as was Hillary are simply a given. Socialists only see and hear what they want to hear and anti-Americanism is what they seek.
God bless President Bush and his remarkable team; what other country on earth, would try to save the people while at war with their leader. America is a wonderful country in spite of the Courics and the rest of those socialist pundits.

couric is nothing more than a chipmunk-y spokesmodel who can read a teleprompter with aplomb
she gets paid to hawk products (such as movies, tv shows, and books) and propagandize (such as ALL of her so-called "interviews")
journalist she ain't

Perky Kate and Tiny Tom can scratch each other's backs. The rest of us see through the liberal tilt.

This is the only current "media" thread, so I'll use the opportunity to point out that another brain surgeon, Paula "just a little bit sexy" Zahn just used the term "Seventh CALVARY"; she really ought to study before she speaks.

I hope you're right, but giving the devil it's due, I think the interview was pretty craftfully constructed.
She "seemed" to be asking him questions on the issue, while in fact she was giving him an opportunity to rehab himself.
