India, Israel, US for joint action against terror

Manipal: A trilateral meet of experts from India, Israel and United States have called for creation of a government mechanism among them to promote co-operation and concerted action against terrorism and appealed to like-minded nations to join in.

The three countries are united by a shared commitment to Democratic values, human rights and fundamental freedom and yet all the three are confronted by terrorism in its multiple forms, the meet felt.

However, "there can be no justification for any form of terrorism", was the consensus evolved at the two-day India-US-Israel trilateral meet held in New Delhi on February 6, former US Ambassador to the United Nations Harvey J Feldman and Professor of geo-politics, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) M D Nalapat told reporters while briefing on the outcome of the meet.

India, Israel and US have been victims of terrorism for many years, they said. But it took the events of September 11, 2001 to convince the world that concerted action to confront this global menace was necessary, they said.

The delegates, they said, lauded the success in liberating Afghanistan from the Taleban regime, but noted that the menace of terrorism persists across the world.

The ultimate threat to humanity is the combination of terrorism and weapons of mass destruction. The linkage between terrorists and the states that support them on one hand and drug smuggling, counterfeiting, money laundering and organised crime on the other, is well established, according to them.

Fantastic. A lot better than having the Pakistan ISI and the Saudi royal family as allies in the WAR ON TERROR.

Liberty Alliance bump. This is cropping up all over -- it's an idea whose time has come.

Great to hear!

And I for one am in favor of carving off a slice of Iraq to give to India for their population expansion if they will help develop and stay on to MAINTAIN democracy in the new Iraq and Afghanistan!

India will be the #1 most populated country in the world in 45 years! And both these countries are right in their backyard.

We also need an Organization of Free States Against Terrorism to counter organized terrorist groups and the likes of PUOICM (PARLIAMENTARY UNION OF THE OIC MEMBERS STATES)

The only person confirmed dead from the first bombs into Saddam's bunker was a terrorist with the Palestine Liberation Front: Ahmed Al-Baz. He was a 1st Lieutenant for the most wanted Abu Abbas.

Al-Baz also appears to have been representing Morocco in the Islamic think-tank / hate-group: PUOICM, according to their website. PUOICM meets in Tehran, and was organized in 1999.

About time. A natural coalition.

Yes, but i think the indians reverted back to their old goofy ways by not fully supporting the Americans on Iraq.

I know Iraq has had a consistent ProIndia viewpoint on Kashmir, but they should've seen the writing on the wall and dumped Saddam overboard. Follow Japan's example and not the Euros. In their defence, they have local parliamentary politics to deal with, Congress Party opposed, Muslims opposed and the general population split. However, history has its pivotal moments, and i think, pessimist's hat on, that this decision will be reminscent of Nehru's refusal to send troops to Korea in 1950. Sad thing is, India didn't need to send troops, etc all that was needed was verbal support and a statement that would allow India to preserve its diplomatic standing with the Arab countries.

All in all, India's traditional shoot itself in the foot reputation stands. Too bad the pro US components weren't able to assert themselves but they have a tough time dealing with the Fascist label attached to them by the liberal media in the west.

Thanks for your assessment.

Fox News had a discussion on tonight regarding post-war diplomacy, with Krauthammer warning of French perfidy in trying to muscle in the UN to do post-war rebuilding.

I hope the U.S. opens this up only to those members of the coalition.

It would have been a grand opportunity for India to extend an economic foot there. But as you stated, that foot has been shot.

When will India wake up and seize the chances given to it ?

A new alliance for a post 9-11 world. The UN is going to die a lingering death, W is going to give them a taste of strategery.
