Peter Jennings just received confirmation from his correspodent in Qatar that Gen Tommy Franks is angered with the disclosure of certain strategic information by the US press that the press received as "off the record" background. Franks is no longer releasing the information.

There needs to be an investigation into who released the information and they need to be prosecuted. Franks learned what we all know...there is no such thing as "off the record" and trusting the media with vital information.

Hmmm...like the NY Times talking about how missiles can home in on satellite phones?

Maybe it's just ABC that's getting cut-off. From the looks of things, FoxNews is getting great cooperation from the military.

I guess now we know who Rumsfeld was talking to this morning with his warnings not to give out any information.

In case I wasn't clear. I think Rummy was spanking Franks' beans and franks for giving out info to our patriotic, country first story second media.

I'm so glad our troops will be safer.

I do not trust Peter Jennings and ABC news.
To: Amerigomag
General Franks should make the guilty party walk point for a bit.

A spy is a legitimate military target. Franks should waste these basturds-of-the-press.
To: Amerigomag
Peter Jennings was the one who gave tactical and strategic information
He lists each vulnerability of each system.
Jennings is outrageous.

...there is no such thing as "off the record" and trusting the media with vital information. No kidding. Just ask a Canadian (i.e., Liberal) politician.

General Franks should make the guilty party walk point for a bit.He gave out the off the record information so maybe they should throw him off the frickin ship?!
He should realize that these reporters don't give a sh!+ about off the record crap. A scoop or two during this war will make their bones for the next decade in their industry. This is how they get to be a big time news star by screwing their country and Franks (unless it was someone else) thought he could win some favor with them by giving out some secrets.
Some of the least conscious servicemembers when it comes to opsec are Officers and when the press gets around them they get even worse.

M'thinks Canada Petah and ABC are spreading disinformation and bllsht. One good thing about cable is it's Petah free if you want it.
