The Sun leads with the words of an army commander who told British troops to "Show Them No Pity... They Have Stains On Their Souls".
The Mirror carries a nightime picture of a RAF Harrier over Iraqi oilfields.
The Star claims that British SAS troops have already exchanged fire with Iraqi troops in what were the first shots of the "war against evil tyrant Sadddam Hussein".
The Mail quotes from speech from a British commander to his troops - it says the impassioned speech brought tough infantrymen to tears and prepared them for the horror and the tragedy of war.
The Express reports that Allied jets launched the first strikes of the war as they began pounding Iraqi artillery units.
The Guardian says Iraqi troops have begun surrendering as coalition aircraft bombed heavy guns within range of the Iraqi-Kuwait border.
The Independent leads with the words of George Bush who has warned his country to be prepared for loss of life and for a conflict that ideally would be short, but that could last for some time.
The Telegraph carries an atmospheric picture of US troops under the headline "The Gathering Storm". It reports from the Kuwait Iraq border where the might of the US army is assembling ready for war.
The Times says there have been mass desertions of Iraqi troops and defections of senior figures from Saddam Hussein's ruling family circle.
The Financial Times reports that the deadline for Saddam Hussein to leave Iraq or be crushed by war expired in the pre-dawn.

Sorry this was a little late tonight; I barely have the desire to get out of bed any more, much less play with HTML.

Nice dog tags Anna's wearing. Is that the reason for all the military stuff on the other covers?

Gee, I wonder which paper will sell the most copies?

Thank you so much for posting these headlines.
The "impassioned speech" that is quoted on these papers is indeed, an impassioned speech. The link is here. Well worth reading. Grab the hankies.

I don't think I'm going to do this any more after tonight. I've had it with playing news online when God and Jesus have decided to damn me forever and then taunt me by filling every channel on my TV with a bunch of 25-year-olds getting the break of their lives while I can't even afford to go to McDonald's. To hell with it all.

you're only 33 and a young pup. Patience is the virtue of the hunter. Perserverance rewards the fisherman. Life is about peaks and valeys and it doesn't follow the laws of gravity. Just remeber that the worst day of your life is only followed by a better one.

If there is a God, or any religion, then someone has to be damned. I have apparently been chosen.
