FREEPERS NEEDED TO FORM AD HOC RALLY FOR AMERICA IN WILMINGTON, DE!!!!!
Posted on 03/19/2003 12:10:33 PM PST by drothamel
Attention all FReepers! A group calling themselves "The 9-11 Coalition for Just and Peaceful Initiatives" is planning an anti-war protest in downtown Wilmington, DE. The are going to protest at the Federal Building on King St. Their goal is to block the entrance to the building and disrupt government activity. Their protest is scheduled to begin the first work day after the beginning of the war in Iraq. As such, I would like to get as many people out there as possible to launch a Rally for America in order to show support for our President and our troops in the war effort. Obviously, timing depends on when we invade Iraq. It could be Friday, or Monday, or even next week. Whenever it is, I want to make sure the public knows that the peaceniks are not the majority. Anyone who wants more info, please contact me ASAP.

I wish the US were making it more clear that all this is a continuation of the 1992 war due to Iraq's violation of hthe Armistice .... they were and remain the 'belligerents' and this is NOT a pre-emptive action.

I'm doing the Rally at the State Capitol in Des Moines on Saturday.
If I can offer you any advise on how to proceed, I would be glad to.
Here's a few helpful hints:
Get every FReeper in your state involved.
Set on a time and place. Once you set it, it can't be changed easily, and until it is set, it is very hard to proceed.
Do a nice looking flyer announcement/press release that can be both put in the body of an email and as a printable attachment. Make sure it is well-done, or your credibility and the credibility of the event will suffer alot.
Fire up the email lists---they are amazingly powerful and swift if the timing is on your side (which it is this moment).
Contact every sympathetic local in-state radio talkshow host. Get them to plug the gathering, and if possible, put your most well-spoken, knowledgable person on the air with them.
Most states now have a complete newspaper, radio and TV media list, with email addresses, available online. Send your announcement out to the entire list.
Send your announcement to every organization that you think shares your values and ask them to help get the word out.
If you will notice, not a single thing above has cost you one red cent. It's all free if you have a computer online and a phone.
More later if you want.

You beat me to the post. I was planning to go down there, since I have lived in Wilmington all of my life (I'm 22), and stand up to the radical leftists. These people are unpatriotic (there, I said it!). They had all the opportunity to support our troops, and they're still going to make a fuss against the war. It's not surprising though.

Keep us posted, I work in Wilmington and will see if I can make it over there. We should figure out what federal law enforcement agencies are based in that building and drive home the point that the peaceniks are interfering with the ability to interdict terrorists. That'll turn any onlookers against them.

Thanks for the response. I work for a law firm in the Connectiv building, so I will be able to see everything from my window. I don't get to work until about 1 PM becuase of school in the morning. Hopefully, the protest won't be until at least Monday, because I will be out of town Friday.
As far as federal agencies go, you bring up an interesting point. I know that the building is home to the IRS, the Federal Courts, and the offices of state officials. I'm not sure about any offices relating to counter-terrorism or homeland security though. Might be something worth checking in to.
Keep your ears and eyes open. I first heard about this on WDEL 1150 AM. Hopefully at least a few of us can go down there and show support.

I checked the FBI website, they don't have a field office in Wilmington.

After tonights events, it is quite possible that the protest will take place tomorrow. I am going to do what I can to get down there if something is going on. Like I said, I can't get there until around 1:00pm or so. We shall see how things go. If anyone reads this message, pass on the good word to all who will listen. In the poignant words of the President tonight, "God bless America, and all who defend her."
