[history]
Yesterday, the French ambassador to the United States, Jean-David Levitte, announced that despite France's opposition to a war in Iraq, "if Saddam Hussein were to use chemical and biological weapons, this would change the situation completely and immediately for the French government ... We have equipment to fight in such circumstances." Thanks, but no thanks, M. Levitte.

Any more to the reports that French agents are destroying papers that tie France to Iraq's WMD?

And, no matter how you happen to feel about the institution, France has destroyed the Security Council of the UN, if not the UN itself.

With the weather getting hotter and hotter over there daily it sickens me that the weasels were attempting to postpone the inevitable and put our troops in even greater harm.

Can the French be any more obnoxious? What pathetic, irrelevant JERKS. I'm beginning to agree with the Congresswoman - SEND OUR BRAVE, DEAD SOLDIERS HOME - we can honor them with the dignity and respect they deserve.

France can drop dead. They had a chance to be honourable - they flunked it.

"if Saddam Hussein were to use chemical and biological weapons, this would change the situation completely and immediately for the French governmentThis is so typically illogical. The French government has been all but doing a chorus line dance with Saddam that he doesn't even have such weapons. Saddam has said numerous times that he doesn't, then he threatens using them, and even his own son has turned around and threatened the use of the "non-existant" WMD. You can't have it both ways, unless you're French, of course.
We have equipment to fight in such circumstances.
Yes, but the French don't have any men to fight, let alone operate the equipment. And who would want to be in a foxhole next to a Frenchman? Those pompous windbags are looking even worse than they did the day before.

Iraq will most definitely NOT use chem or bio weapons because they certainly don't want to get the merciless, ferocious, bloodthirsty French involved.

Is it possible that France was actually working
with us with all that veto talk?
I think Bush made a mistake in calling for another resolution and needed a way to back out of it. If a vote was called, and even if we had enough votes, that would have set a deadline perhapes weeks from now. It would have also set a precident that we need UN approval to act in our own interests. And if we lost the vote it would have been even more complicated.
By not having the vote, we avoided all that mess. So I kind of thank the French for getting us out of the UN, so to speak.
Maybe, behind the scenes, we were encouraging the French to act as obstructionists and they bravely agreed to take a lot of flack to help us out of the UN delays.
I know it is far out, but it has worked out that way. If the resolution had passed, we would be waiting for another 2-week deadline (after which it would be too late.) If we lost the vote, we'd have egg on our face. Thanks to the French, there was no vote.
