House resolution asks Dixie Chicks for free show for troops
A South Carolina House member is calling on the Dixie Chicks to perform a free concert for troops.
Rep. Catherine Ceips, R-Beaufort, is sponsoring a resolution calling for the country music group to perform for South Carolina troops and their families.
The Dixie Chicks are scheduled to perform their first concert on their U.S. tour in Greenville this May.
Lead singer Natalie Maines reportedly told a London audience last week, in reference to President George W. Bush's push for military action against Iraq, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."
Radio stations nationwide are boycotting the Dixie Chicks, even though Maines - a Lubbock, Texas, native - publicly apologized for her statement in London.
Ceips said a free concert for troops would be good way for Maines to show she's sorry.
"If they are really serious about apologizing to the president and our troops, I can't think of a better way than to perform for our troops and their families here in South Carolina," Ceips said. "These men and women of the military are the backbone of our country and it's time our stars realize that."

Gee, what did the military ever do to them? Don't our troops have it rough enough without being subjected to their polution?

Singer Travis Tritt Says Celebs Should Support TroopsBeing asked to support the troops under duress is the same as not being supported at all. I wouldn't want to see anybody who didn't really want to be there. What's the point? It's crap.

I understand your point.
I still would like for them to have to SHOW their apology by means of free concerts for the troops.

If I was a military member, I wouldn't show up.

I'm not going! I'd rather listern to Dashole make a speech.

How demoralizing for the troops to have be entertained by these bubble heads who just insulted their Commander in Chief on foreign soil.
Let them go, but only if the troops boo them off the stage.

This is silly. It's a politician trying to get some publicity and inflating the Vichy Chicks importance al out of proportion. It's even sillier that the "Freedom Fries" resolution.

There was only one speech that Dashole made that I liked and ever since then anything he has had to say has been crap!
So I vote no for a dashole speech, as for the Chicks Well this sounds like a ploy to gain them a foothold again! I bet you Catherine Ceips is a big dixie chicks fan!
