I'm self employed. It doesn't matter what I do. I do know that anytime anyone claims that every single member of a certain profession is skeptical by nature, that they're wrong because we are all individuals. Maybe most real estate agents are skeptical, but there will always be the exception to any rule.

Mostly, I want to know where else they've worked.

And they would never lie to you, would they?

I thought there was at least a five month time period between the time he worked there and the time she disappeared.

Star revoked.

Learn the details of how she was raised and the structure of her life. There was no occasion for a relationship to exist.

There are legitimate questions concerning this whole Elizabeth Smart disappearance, and then there are just the rank speculations covered in mud...

I agree. Thanks

I am very much disturbed by the great majority of FReepers who slandered and smeared this poor girl and her family. Be honorable men and women, and write retractions.

Well worth of a repost. I hope they have a change of heart and a little contrition left in them.

No one that we know of was ever able to ascertain whether Ricci had a key at the time of the abduction, or not.

Ricci was not "railroaded" for anything. He had, in fact, allegedly stolen goods from the Smarts' house while working in it--including money and jewelry. He had also allegedly burglarized the home of the Smarts' neighbor Sue Ann Adams--while she and her children were in the home sleeping. He had also allegedly robbed a bank in Sandy, vaulting a counter with gun in hand, and threatening employees.

They had good evidence on all those cases, and I believe they'd have proved some or all of them, had he not died.

Ricci was in jail only b/c he put himself there.

Yes, apparently SLC (and some members of the public, including myself) thought Ricci had really done this. He hadn't. He was never charged with any crime relating to Elizabeth.

But you know, what with Ricci's 30-year criminal career and extended stays in prison throughout his life, I kind of think that if he ever HAD chosen this "line," that he, like Mitchell, probably would have been capable of the worst. Prison doesn't make you kind.

I think that the two categories that you put Smart bashers in, are clearly spot on...

Another thing that strikes me, is many of the Smart bashers, are also braggarts....they keep insisting that 'they' and 'their wonderful children' would never, ever had gotten themselves into this situation, and even if their family was in this situation, they and their children are oh so smart, and oh so wonderful, that they would never have allowed themselves to be held captive..'they' are much more resourceful, and certainly would have escaped...

This looks like projection to me...people who take a situation, they know nothing about, and then envision how they would like to imagine they and their family would react in that situation...perhaps this is even a defense mechanism....

We all try to teach our children how to protect themselves from harm, when away from us...that makes it all the more scarey, when a child is abducted, tho, from their very own home, the one place where most parents believe that their children are safe...perhaps by bolstering themselves up, by bragging about their own resourcefullness, the Smart bashers somehow rationalize that neither they nor their children could find themselves in this situation...

"He ought to get credit for that."

I think life in jail instead of a firing squad is credit enough.

I think that they are taking forgivness to an extreem level, but at the same time God did bless them with the return of their daughter.

Some idiots confuse Patty Hearst with Jane Fonda. Yes, Patty Hearst was "associated" with a sort of liberal-nut-quasi-free-everything-semi-commie-type fringe group: the "Symbionese Liberation Army." But, er, she didn't exactly just go down to the nearest Symbionese Liberation Army recruiting center and sign up. She was forcibly taken away at gunpoint, and as you say, was locked away naked for extended periods, being raped periodically by a racist filthball named Donald DeFreeze. Mercifully, DeFreeze was killed when police stormed his SLA place.

Meanwhile, since the SLA hated rich white guys, they forced the Hearsts to "feed the poor" by handing out tons of free food in Watts. Patty's return was promised. Of course, the bad rich white guys did what they were told, but the good liberal wonderful utopians didn't keep their half of the bargain: they didn't return Patty at that time.

Patty apparently found it very good for her health to get into this wonderful organization's way of life--and to show enthusiasm about it. If she hadn't, by now she'd have long been a worm-eaten skeleton.

I know of nothing whatsoever that indicates that Patty Hearst is a liberal.

Glad they got the bastard!

Now maybe he'll stop slanting the news on MSNBC.

You don't understand, I wasn't faulting her. But you can take your frickin' star and shove it anyway. First you say there was not enough time, that being casually questioned you get defensive. So evidently there was enough time. It didn't happen, though. I know it and you know it. So climb down off your high horse and try to understand that there were some questions about the entry into the house that night. Maybe those answers will come out eventually.

Rather than an apology from the bashing freepers, let's put them in a hole in the ground covered with a board, violated, and threatened at knifepoint. See if that doesn't break them like this poor girl was broken.

For two whole months.

The details are awful. And the Smarts are trying to keep the worst of them out.

I don't blame them and I, personally, don't want to hear any more tidbits. They have gone through nine months what most of us don't in a whole lifetime.

So climb down off your high horse

That's not horse, it's yak, you blind fool.

When you said "time" you were talking about elapsed months or something.

When I said "time" I meant unsupervised moments in Elizabeth's life that would be necessary for any relationship to happen i the first place.

Although many have faulted the Smarts for their parenting, What I have read is a picture of just the opposite. The kids were constantly supervised. There was no "Where are you going, Elizabeth?" "Oh, I am just going to hang out with some friends."

They kept her busy, which actually may have contributed to her emotional vulnerability to the situation with Mitchell. She had no savvy. She was sheltered. It's probably the best way to parent, if you can keep them well-sheltered until they are young adults with fairly strong identities. But at an early age like Elizabeth, you pay the price in the vulnerabilty that comes with naivete.

A street urchin might have fared better psychologically.

But--and this might make some people angry--I still find fault with the family, particularly with Ed Smart.

I knew there was a but coming.

These people never change.

Someone mentioned a Nixonian list. I'll start mine soon. Let me know if anyone is interested.
