Denmark to join in Iraq war

DENMARK is to send a submarine, a corvette and crack troops to participate in any war against Iraq, opposition leaders said after talks with Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen.
Rasmussen, whose liberal-conservative governing coalition has been a supporter of Washington's stance on Iraq, had already decided on the country's contribution to a war before the meeting, they said.
"The government presented us with a fait accompli," Marianne Jelved, head of the Radical party, told reporters.
"It is odd that the government should summon the opposition for talks when the decision on the Danish participation has already been taken," added Social Democrat leader Mogens Lykketoft.
According to Lykketoft and other Social Democratic leaders, the government has decided to send a submarine, the Saelen, a corvette, the Olfert Fischer and a corps of elite soldiers into any conflict with Iraq.
"The time has come to take a stance," Rasmussen said separately, in a statement released after US President George W Bush gave Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein until Thursday to leave the country or face war.
"The international community has demanded for 12 years that Saddam Hussein give up his weapons of mass destruction, but Saddam Hussein has not cooperated (in this respect)," he said.
"It is unacceptable to make a mockery of the international community's authority," he said.
Rasmussen said he hopes to win approval for his government's stance in parliament's foreign policy committee later today.
The centre and left opposition parties, however, continue to oppose war without UN backing.
Parliament is "deeply divided" over the issue, Lykketoft said.

Beautiful Denmark and the lovely Danish people are being besieged by Islamofacists who refuse to assimilate and treat that wonderful country like a cesspool.
I wish them well!

Thank-you Denmark.I noticed this island of reasonableness in a sea of idiots, when the letter of support from the European countries was signed.

Can't these countries just leave us alone ? How are we going to be unilateral if they keep trying to join us ?

As a Danish/American I can only hope that this makes up in part for the TOTAL embarassment of Hans Blix.

The best thing about this is what it will do to Garrison Keller.
