Pep Boys Statement Regarding Military Leave

March 17, 2003

Service to our nation is paramount to Pep Boys. We are very proud, not only of all those Pep Boys associates currently serving our country but, of every U.S. service man and woman who has ever served.

Our policies grant leaves of absence for military duty to our associates and are in full compliance with Federal and State law.

Regarding recent allegations, we are confident no inappropriate actions have been taken toward any former or current Pep Boys associate due to his or her military obligations. We do, however, take allegations of this type seriously and investigate any such claim.

What a bunch of snakes... As a veteran it really pi**es me off that scum like Pep Boys fires its reservist employees when the country needs their services. I already informed them that they will never get any of my business.

I am confused. Pep Boys seems to be saying the opposite of what your post says. Are you saying they are lying and that they fired their employees who are called into duty in the reserves? If so, they are off my list too!

Send this list to the Pep Boys CEO and ask if they want to be considered an honorary French Company. This BS answer is not an answer. The person who fired the reservists need to be fired if he/she/it violated company policies. If that is company policy, the director of Inhumane Sources needs to be fired unless the order came from the CEO. Then he needs to resign.

Does Pep Boys want to become an honorary French Company?

I will list the alternative category and have your freeper name as the list keeper. That way people can freep you for your list. Once you get it set up and have a master copy in your FreepMail, you can just copy it for each reply to the request.

giving them the benefit of the doubt for now ... hope this particular case stays in the public awareness. We might just see some justice for the fired soldier

Ladyinred,

I apologize for my confusing post. I was posting information for all Freepers from the Pep Boys website.

See the following link: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/866109/posts and make your own decision. My opinion is they are lying.

Well why don't they just say whether or not the employee has been terminated and if the answer is yes, for what reason? This statement doesn't clear up a thing!

they say they're investigating. I'm not excusing what happened, but it sounds like they are concerned (at least about the negative publicity) and will rectify it. Like I said, keep it in the public eye, maybe we will be pleasantly surprised.

The question is what the term "associates" mean. It probably means non management employees.

Don't know if Target is French or not. The following article was in our local newspaper (Herkiner NY Evening Telegram)in the Reader Opinions:

To the Editor: Dick Forey of the Vietnam Veterans Association wrote: "We asked our local Target store to be a sponsor of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall during our spring recognition event. We received back a reply from Target management that veterans do not meet our area of giving . We only donate to the areas of arts, social actions and education."

"My thought : if the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and the veteran himself do not meet the criteria of these areas, something is wrong at Target."

"We were not asking for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, but simply sponsorship of an endorsement for a memorial remembrance ."
As follow-up, I e-mailed the corporate headquarters and their response was the same.

"Personally, I will not be buying anything at Target Stores again. If the Vietnam Veteran does not meet their area of giving , then why should I, as a Vietnam Veteran, spend my hardearned money in their stores?

"P.S. Target will also not allow the Marines to collect for Toys for Tots."

I would hope that our town and village officials, now and in the future will never allow a Target store to be opened in this area.

All of us veterans proudly served our country when the need arose and now when our organizations need some help, we are refused by the selfish management of Target.

Edward C. Riesel Herkimer

I apologize in advance for any typos, I had to type the article myself

We may have to develop a list of Politically Correct Companies who are still living in 9/10/2001.

I have a problem of forcing any company to donate to any charity. The minute the company says no, they are in trouble. That is how Je$$ie HyJack$on extorts the companies which pay his bandits.

However, I think that there are a lot of companies with left wingers in their executive suites who need to be put on notice that the world changed on 9/11/2001.

It could also just be a local manager gone nuts. My friend worked at a Food lion and was fired because she came down with BREAST CANCER! That was not company policy by ANY means. The bone head manager made a bad call. When the lawyers got done,, She had a NICE cash payment, a leter of apology and the store manager QUITE GONE!

I believe Target is American, owned by the Dayton family, as in Senator Mark Dayton (D-Minnesota), heir to the family fortune. Perhaps that explains it...

God bless America!
