KGW, Iraq and the U.S.: The real demonstrations ignored

As reported in the U.K. Telegraph on Sunday, March 16, 2003:
To set an example, members of Saddam's security forces arrested a civil servant in the al-Hurriyya suburb of Baghdad on suspicion of preparing to leave the country. The unfortunate official was then tied to a pole in the street and passers-by were ordered to watch as his tongue was cut out and he was left to bleed to death.
Meanwhile, on KGW (Portland's "Number One Sunday News"), Kelly Love, backed up by visuals, said "Thousands rallied for peace in downtown Portland." That's a quote. The man described above has certainly found peace, so Love and her beloved "peace marchers" should be happy for him. Her report was dominated by these Portland demonstrators. It also showed (volunteer?) supporters of Hussein marching in Baghdad, carrying a large picture of the dictator. Perhaps ten seconds was devoted to those in Oregon who support getting rid of the Iraqi monster, Hussein. No mention was made of the most important, most dramatic news of the day.
The anti-Hussein marchers in Iraq.
Demonstrations were also reported to have taken place in Kirkuk, where an estimated crowd of 20,000 marched on the Ba'ath party's main administrative headquarters demanding Saddam's overthrow.
Miss Love is quite obviously unaware of the reasons why people would risk their lives to do such a dangerous thing......(snip)

The ignorance of the peace protestors is mind boggling. They're so dumb they don't even know they're dumb.

If they weren't so ignorant, they'd realize how cold-hearted they truly are.

The ignorance of the peace protestors is mind boggling. They're so dumb they don't even know they're dumb.
That's typical of youth. They don't know what they don't know, so they think they know more. The trend that makes them more conservative as they age is accounted for by the gradual realization that truth is a bit more complex then they once thought, and people who they thought were better were actually worse, and the ones they thought evil or stupid, actually weren't that bad. By that time they have kids of their own who can't understand their lack of compassion or their scepticism of taxes and government.
So morale is some of these protesters, the smarter ones, may one day be quoting Jefferson or von Mises.

There just isn't any teaching in our schools about "peace demonstrators" who've shown up before every war America has ever been in, including the Revolution.
A study of the "peace at any price" folks would show they've always been the same: for adults, special monetary interests that a war would disrupt, unreasoning partisan hatred for those currently leading the government, and agents for the enemy hoping to keep America out of the war. And for kids -- just what you said, lack of knowledge about what is really going on, what is at stake.
Today it's even worse, with the mainstream media actively functioning as agents for the enemies of America, whether they intend that or not.

You're welcome, Amelia. I agree, the peace demonstrators, whether or not they admit it, are demonstrating their hatred for America.

You should have watched KATU Channel 2 last night.
My wife and I were stunned:
The reporter was trying to prove how ill-informed the peace protesters were: Only 2 out of 10 was able to locate Iraq on the map.
Then holding up a liter bottle asking them how many liters of Anthrax was unaccounted for in Iraq. Nobody guessed it.
He really tried showing them how dangerous Saddam is to us.
Then he interviewed the lone demonstrator with a "Bomb Iraq" sign and gave him the opportunity to explain his position well. BTW He also mentioned that he was verbally abused and spat upon by the "peace" demonstrators.
I was amazed how they reported this, FNN would have been proud.
Kudos to KATU

Then there's Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez on Fox talking about how she supports the troops, but thinks the President is so wrong to be rushing to war...BARF.

I wish I'd seen that KATU report! Quite a difference from the stupidity of KGW's airheads.

ABC news made reference to "peace marches" 10 times last night on the news. Not a single mention of the "rally for america" marches. Surprised?

I wish I could find a transcript for you, but they don't have one on their website.
But it sure was a pleasant surprise.

That seems to be true for all the mainstream media.....heavy coverage of the "peace" demonstrators, very little about the supporters for the president and for this war.

It isn't just about youthful protesters. Some of the ancient hippies I work with haven't had this much fun since they ran Nixon. The hatred these people have for GWB is amazing.

Incredible. These 'aging hippies' would undermine the president who is doing his darnedest to save their sorry necks. Talk about brainless twits!
