The antis had an announcement published in the Modesto Bee early in the week that they were going to protest the war at the local Armed Forces Recruiting Station today. Their announced time was noon to 1:30 pm. Several folks in the community, including one of the local VFW chapters and this reporter saw this as a slap in the face to our military. Sooooo, the VFW members began to gather at 10 am and FReepers, FXRDeb, HDRider and Diver Dave agreed to arrive at 11:30 to "take the corner."

Shortly after noon, two gentlemen with signs tucked under their arms walked past and crossed the street. Within 15 minutes, their numbers swelled to 5. Yep, that's right, FIVE. We were totally underwhelmed. Possibly, some antis made the trip to San Francisco thus the poor turnout.

Meanwhile, fxrdeb counted 27 patriots on our corner holding high Old Glory and brandishing signs soliciting support for our Armed Forces. The passing motorists needed very little prompting once they saw that beautiful flag. BEEP! BEEP!, waves, thumbs up signals were in no short supply today. We noticed one flip-off to our side a V peace signs.

One couple rode by on a Harley and the passenger flipped off the antis and gave us a thumbs up. I notice one young lady as she drove by offered a salute to the Colors.

Onward to next week. I believe the VFW guys are going to be doing some recruiting this week.

Dave, you forgot to mention the pasty faced old hag antiwar protester that tried to stand amongst us. You can always tell the liberals by their looks, she looked like a cadaver from the county morgue! She finally gave up after we herded her into the traffic! Cars kept swerving around her like she was ROAD KILL. After a couple of near misses another peacenik came and claimed her.
