San Antonio DJ Pulls The Plug On The Dixie Chicks

A popular country music group has some San Antonians turning off their radios. A KJ 97 DJ pulled the plug on the trio's songs after lead singer Natalie Maines made a negative comment about President Bush.

The trio is on tour overseas, but they're causing quite a stir back here at home.

"Natalie Maines before a concert audience in London, England said, and I quote, ‘Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas,’" said Keith Montgomery with KJ 97.

The comments prompted Montgomery to pull the Chicks music off the air Thursday

"I would say the reaction is 99 percent in favor of what I have done," said Montgomery.

Texans aren't the only ones upset about Maine's comments. Reaction from all over the country caused the group on Thursday to post an explanation of their stance. The group released a statement Thursday saying they have been overseas for several weeks and "the anti-American sentiment that has unfolded here is astounding. While we support our troops, there is nothing more frightening than the notion of going to war with Iraq and the prospect of all the innocent lives that will be lost."

In a separate statement Thursday, Maines said, "I feel the president is ignoring the opinion of many in the U.S. and alienating the rest of the world. My comments were made in frustration, and one of the privileges of being an American is you are free to voice your own point of view."

But in the process of putting their opinion out there, they're losing support. Angry phone calls flooded radio stations across the country Thursday, calling for a boycott of the Texas trio's music.

The Dixie Chicks will kick off a U.S. tour in support of their multi-platinum album "Home" on May 1 in Greenville, South Carolina. The group's hits include "Wide Open Spaces," "Ready to Run" and "Landslide." The Dixie Chicks are coming to San Antonio in July.

Montgomery says, after hearing from more listeners, he'll decide on Friday whether to play their music on his show.

Amazing the height of stupidity!

These gals sing and perform for country and western redneck America. Their single largest group of fans probably is the State of Texas, and they insult George Bush and Texas.

Liberal democrats DO NOT listen to the "Dixie Chicks". Why the very name stirs hatred and resentment from liberals. Why would they want to appease the socialist liberals of London?

What was this silly girl thinking???? I bet her manager is having a fit! The other two should dump her immediately, and try and distance themselves from this as much as possible or else their careers are over as well.

Yeah her guitar technique could be described as amateurish at best. I saw footage of her playing and her picking technique was all downstrokes, an inefficient technique employed by those who eschew convention.

You know, the two outer "chicks", the violin player and the Dobro player, have the real talent anyway. They're "pickers", and were the ones who said they won't discuss politics. It's only Maines who shot her mouth off, and as an acoustic guitar playing singer, is the easiet to replace of the three.

The other 2 are the ones that forced out their original singer in favor of Maines so that they could be more 'mainstream' and appealing ... the original singer was very talented and pretty, but just not as 'pop' as Maines ... watch the VH1 'Behind the Music' on them ... raw ambition that overwhelmed personal loyalties. They are reaping what they have sown.

I actually quit listening to them when they replaced their lead singer with the current gal. Her voice grates on my nerves. I liked them before her.

There can't be worse places for idiots like the Dixie Chicks to start their U.S. tour than in Greenville SC
since that state is heavily conservative and has been
doing a huge shift to the Republican Party for most of
the last decade!!

Has anyone already bought tickets to one of their concerts, and are now regretting it? You can't take them back for a refund unless the venue cancels the concert. But if you bought the tickets with a credit card (as most people probably do), you still have an option.

If your tickets are being delivered by mail, and you have not received them yet, when you do, mark "return to Sender" on the envelope and send it back. Then notify your credit card company that you never received the tickets, and have them remove the charge from your account. The credit card company must do this! It is then up to the vendor to prove that you did receive them. Without that proof (certified delivery, return receipt etc.), the credit card company will not reinstate the charge.

If you have already received the tickets by mail, you can do the same thing as long as you didn't have to sign for the tickets. Of course, you can't use the tickets after this without getting into legal trouble. Once you verify that the charge has been reversed, burn the tickets.

If you picked them up in person and paid with a credit card, you still might be able to have the charges reversed. Credit card companies will reverse charges for services if you are not satisfied with the service. You could claim that the concert is no longer what you originally bargained for when you bought the tickets - that the product or service is now damaaged or tarnished in your eyes. Again, once you dispute the charge, the credit card company must reverse the charge and it is the responsibility of the vendor to prove that the charge is valid.

I thought of this because my fiancee just went through something like this. She is a lawyer, and she had a client that didn't like what my fiancee told her. My fiancee told her exactly what she could expect to get in court, did all of the paperwork and prepared for the court appearance. The client decided to get another lawyer, and almost a year later, disputed the credit card charge stating that she was dissatisfied with the service my fiancee provided. They took the money out of her account immediately, and she was unable to get them to reinstate the charge, even though she was able to prove that the client got in court exactly what my fiancee told her she would get, even with a new lawyer.

So spread the word, Freepers!

[ed mc mahon]Yes, you are Corrrrrect Sir![/ed mc mahon]

maines has put the other two in a corner. They either remain silent, in effect meaning they agree, or they have to come out and say they disagrre with maines. That probably wouldn't sit too well with maines.

Thanks for the compliment, but I owe the sentiment behind the post to Darryl Worley and his great song, "Have You Forgotten?"

Americans don't even know what a nightmare is. Maybe if we did we wouldn't think much of losing only 3,000. The Jews lost 6,000,000. The Russians lost 20,000,000. The French lost their virtue.

Thank G-d we live in a land where we can get hopping mad that "only" 3,000 died in an attack on our soil.

Shalom.

LOL Now there is a thread about pawn shops and stores that sell used CDs refusing any more Dixie Chicks CDs or tapes. This is getting hilarious!!!

Note to self: Always think twice, then STFU!

Wise advice to Natalie, and wise to me, too.

Shalom.

Thank you.

Thanks to Darryl Worley, a Country singer with class, for helping me to remember what I had almost forgotten.

Shalom.

Just a thought:  I don't wanna be in a Texas honkytonk this weekend if they start to play any Dixie Chicks songs.....not if they use glass bottles.
But seriously, from a PR standpoint, this is a terrible (wonderful) time for this story to be at peak if you are the Dixie Chicks.  Anything that breaks before noon on Friday is what people talk about ALL WEEKEND at softball games, family dinners, church gatherings, etc., especially now that the weather's pretty.  In other words, there's little chance for spin from the Dixie camp.

Here in Kansas City, the station that was promoting thier concert has pulled all thier songs, as well as the other 2 FM country stations. Good for Them.

I was going to purchase tickets for the show here, until I got in to ticketmaster, only to find out that they were getting $75 bucks a ticket for the bad seats. Sadly, they sold out here...I wish they would have pulled this crap before they started selling tickets....they surely would NOT have sold out....only the few idiot liberal country fans would have shown up. And as Natalie is finding out, her fan base does NOT agree with her in the least...She has fallen into the trap of believing because She is famous She is also important....It will be a joy to watch her crash and burn.

If I had tickets, I would go with a sign saying "we love you dixie chicks" (because they will have security checking signs) only then to pull out my paintbrush and write "enjoy your last tour You anti-American filth"
I suggest any ticket holders to do the same....
And if you were unlucky enough to pay the big bucks to get the close seats, may I suggest you start letting the tomatoes rot now.....aim well! :)

I'd almost pay $75 just to witness their demise. ;) It might be worth it. I'm shocked by all of this. You can get away with these commenst when you're dealing with the grunge crowd. But country? Not a good move.
