San Antonio DJ Pulls The Plug On The Dixie Chicks

A popular country music group has some San Antonians turning off their radios. A KJ 97 DJ pulled the plug on the trio's songs after lead singer Natalie Maines made a negative comment about President Bush.

The trio is on tour overseas, but they're causing quite a stir back here at home.

"Natalie Maines before a concert audience in London, England said, and I quote, ‘Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas,’" said Keith Montgomery with KJ 97.

The comments prompted Montgomery to pull the Chicks music off the air Thursday

"I would say the reaction is 99 percent in favor of what I have done," said Montgomery.

Texans aren't the only ones upset about Maine's comments. Reaction from all over the country caused the group on Thursday to post an explanation of their stance. The group released a statement Thursday saying they have been overseas for several weeks and "the anti-American sentiment that has unfolded here is astounding. While we support our troops, there is nothing more frightening than the notion of going to war with Iraq and the prospect of all the innocent lives that will be lost."

In a separate statement Thursday, Maines said, "I feel the president is ignoring the opinion of many in the U.S. and alienating the rest of the world. My comments were made in frustration, and one of the privileges of being an American is you are free to voice your own point of view."

But in the process of putting their opinion out there, they're losing support. Angry phone calls flooded radio stations across the country Thursday, calling for a boycott of the Texas trio's music.

The Dixie Chicks will kick off a U.S. tour in support of their multi-platinum album "Home" on May 1 in Greenville, South Carolina. The group's hits include "Wide Open Spaces," "Ready to Run" and "Landslide." The Dixie Chicks are coming to San Antonio in July.

Montgomery says, after hearing from more listeners, he'll decide on Friday whether to play their music on his show.

Wow, man, that's a powerful image. And sadly, true. Mind if I use it when debating America haters?

No one will explain what they base this opinion upon.

I predict a year from now, they'll be as big as ever and only FReepers will even remember this flap.

They show no respect or affection for their main market.

This is what really gets me about this, I mean, who did these women think they were singing to? This has got to be one of the stupidest things I have ever seen an entertainment person do. Not only do they show no respect for their main market, this girl doesn't even seem to understand who her main market is.

They are scheduled to be in Little Rock on August 1. I'll be practicing my aiming skills with the dog poop catapult in advance.

Hey Dixie Chicks... You may think you have the right to speak your mind. So be it. But, let me remind you the FANS also have that right and we are speaking LOUD and CLEAR. What I especially don't like about your clamouring about your free right to speak in America is that you don't do it in America. You trash our beautiful country in just about every other country. Great Britain seems to be a popular spot for all you celebs to spout your nonsense. I suppose that's because, as you can see, would upset a lot of us real Americans who by the way, like our President. See, we respect him, just like he respects us. It's a two way street, dearies. I believe your two way street is called "COWARDLY". Good luck, because you will need it on Cowardly Street.

The problem 'starz' have is that they interpret the First Amendment right to speak freely to mean there will be NO CONSEQUENCES to speaking freely. She may have a right to speak. BUT, I have a right to not listen and/or react positively OR negatively when I do hear her.

Tata chixy dicks.

So Earl had to die, but not Saddam?

It's wrong to "pre-emptively" disarm Sadaam (who has shown he will use his wmd's and use them in acts of terror), but it is ok to pre-emptively disarm law-abiding Americans who have shown zero inclination to act agreesively against anyone.

Typical liberal hypocrisy.

Love how she claims her maternal instincts are behind her worries about "the perceived rush to war."

So who "perceives" this, Natalie (she's ghastly looking with that heavy eyeliner)? And what do you care about perceptions of foreigners? How brave of you to wave your children in defense of your scurrilous words. You're a mother all right. (decency keeps me fron describing what kind of mother you are).

How about this.

You are on a hijacked airliner taking over by Isamist terrorists. The pilots are dead, a stewardess is dead. The plane is flying wildly, not level. You look out the window and see you are flying very very low to a body of water, then you see buildings, tall buildings, very very close.....

This has become the disturbing mantra of the anti-war freaks. Apparently our weapons will only kill women and children.

When I worked on the Tomahawk program, I don't recall a "baby seeker" or a "mommy whacker chip". The only thing I recall is that it was armed with an extremely accurate and a big assed warhead,

On a headline news break during Greta's show on Fox there was just a blurb about the DC controversy. I hadn't seen this mentioned on Fox before that, but I haven't seen every minute tonight (I never watch the other news networks, so I don't know if they mentioned it. If they get hold of the story it'll be spun to gain sympathy for the poor young mom being victimized by a new McCarthyism yadayada....watch: if this DOES gain traction, it'll be used as an example of McCarthyism and "blacklisting.")

They spat upon Toby Keiths great song, "The Angry American" months ago. I have been boycotting them ever since. How anyone can call that song simple, and reflective of the worst about country music, is beyond me. The song never fails to fill me with pride and anger at those that would mess with the USA. They however, seen it as provoking hatred. This latest episode of foot in mouth disease comes as not surprise to me.
