Dixie Chick Explains Bush Slam At London Concert

One of the Dixie Chicks is clarifying remarks she made about President George W. Bush during a concert in London earlier this week.
Reporting on a Chicks' concert, the Web site for the United Kingdom paper The Guardian said singer Natalie Maines (pictured, center) told the crowd, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."
The singer's barb got the audience cheering, the Guardian said.
In a statement on the Chicks' Web site Wednesday, Maines said, "We've been overseas for several weeks and have been reading and following the news accounts of our government's position. The anti-American sentiment that has unfolded here is astounding."
The country trio -- consisting of Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Robinson -- are all from Texas.
"I feel the president is ignoring the opinions of many in the U.S. and alienating the rest of the world," Maines said in the statement. "My comments were made in frustration and one of the privileges of being an American is you are free to voice your own point of view."
And while Maines maintains her beef with Bush, she's much more supportive of the United States troops.
"While we support our troops, there is nothing more frightening than the notion of going to war with Iraq and the prospect of all the innocent lives that will be lost," Maines said.
Whether Maines expresses her feelings about Bush on the group's North American leg of their Top of the World tour is yet to be heard. If she does, it will be in front of a lot of people.
According to music site Lauch, the group sold out 51 out of the 59 arenas in one day on March 1, which amounted to over 867,000 tickets.
The group recently won four Grammy awards including Best Country Album for their smash album "Home."

The Chicks did a new version of the Crossover. They didn't just cross over from Country, they crossed over into Liberal land. Now we know what the Chicks are made of. When they heard criticisms of the US they...jumped on the bandwagon! What courage to tell a crowd of anti-Americans that you hate Bush too!

I didn't know that, but I'm not surprised. I know a lot of people like it, but from day one I've thought their 'Landslide' remake was soulless. Not that the original was the greatest song ever recorded, but it did have an offbeat edgy quality, as if it might fall out of time, or as if it was going to stop at any moment. None of that is true of the harmonized, twangy remake in perfect 4/4 time. With dobro. And the airy-fairy video. (eyeroll)

You are so right, lainie. Their Landslide cover is played on pop stations sometimes and it bugs me the way they go "no, no, uh-uh, uh-uh," like their reading the sounds and trying to enunciate.

And I'm getting pretty tired of this "we support the troops but not the President and his policies" baloney. You can't support one without the other when the shooting starts, you schizo imbecile! (not you, IowaHawk, heheh). Of course you can. I think Ali Bubba Bush should be impeached, but fully support the troops. They ain't the ones making the decisions.
Remember the VN war? Are you saying if we didn't support LBJ we couldn't have supported the troops? I WAS one of the troops back the,and I damn sure didn't support LBJ!
Beyond that, did you support Bubba-1 when he sent troops into Kosovo? His actions in Somolia? The bombing of the aspirin factory?

A friend of mine calls them the "thicksie chicks" denoting the thickness of the fatty that made these comments I see a lot of people making this same comment, but I've noticed in the past that pregnant women sometimes seem to gain weight. She was pregnant when the "fat" photos were taken.
Criticise her for being the airhead she is,but not because she gained a few pounds from being pregnant.

I'm devastated to hear this!!! I agree!!! I am going home right now I have 3 of their CDs and I will break throw them all away. Why do you and others keep saying you are going to do this? The only one you hurt when you do this is yourself. They have already collected their profits from the sale of the CD's you bought, and all you will have done is thrown your money away. If you want to hurt them, just don't buy any more of their music. Don't throw away what you already have.

My local country station is still playing "Landslide". I kind of liked their version of the old Fleetwood Mac hit. But now I hit the "off" button when I hear it.

so, although I was starting to listen to the Dixie Chicks, it has now ended! You might as well give up listening to Dolly and Willie Nelson too, then. Both are big-time lefties, and Dolly is even good pals with Jane Fonda.

It takes a distinct lack of class to trash your president in a foreign country, on a stage to boot, which is what I posted on their website last night and hope they have a chance to read.
