Faith Hill, Toby Keith and Shania Twain have each received five nominations to emerge as frontrunners at the CMT Flameworthy 2003 Video Music Awards. Deana Carter, Rascal Flatts and Blake Shelton announced the finalists during a Tuesday morning (March 11) press conference at Nashville's Gaylord Entertainment Center.

In other Flameworthy news, Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow have been added to the list of performers at the April 7 awards show. They will perform their Flameworthy nominated hit, "Picture," during the live telecast.

Hill and Keith each scored nominations from two videos while all of Twain's nominations resulted from her video for "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!" Twain is nominated for video of the year, female video, hottest female video, fashion plate and concept video of the year.

Hill's "Cry" received nominations for video of the year and female video of the year. She gained another nomination when "Cry" brought a video director of the year nod to the team of Mike Lipscombe. Hill's "When the Lights Go Down" received nominations in the hottest female video and fashion plate video of the year categories. Keith's "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)" received three nominations -- video of the year, male video and cocky video of the year. Keith's "Who's Your Daddy?" netted nominations for hottest male and concept video of the year.

Following closely with four nominations each are the Dixie Chicks, Martina McBride, Tim McGraw and Keith Urban. Kenny Chesney and Rascal Flatts each netted three nominations. Other multi-nominees included Alan Jackson, Terri Clark, Shelton, Montgomery Gentry and Steve Azar.

With Tuesday's announcement, voting resumes at CMT.com through April 5 to determine the Flameworthy winners. Five finalists for video of the year will be announced at the beginning of the April 7 telecast. Voting in the video of the year category will continue throughout the show.

Since I never heard of any of them, I voted for Faith Hill.
I see she is within an inch of pulling ahead, leaving the Dixies in last place.

It's too bad that the term "flameworthy" now means, in Internet lingo, something worthy of being DERIDED. I find much of today's "music" to be "flame-worthy."

Faith Hill and Shania Twain sing country music? When did this occur? My picks:

Video of the Year: no-brainer - Toby Keith, Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue. This video has footage of Toby playing to the troops overseas, him out in the field with them - truly supporting our troops.

Male Video of the Year: I am guessing they have separate awards, so everyone can be a winner. In which case, if Toby won best overall video, he'd be ineligible for this one. I'd choose Kenny Chesney's 'The Good Stuff'.

Female Video of the Year: Choices, choices, choices. Two non-country singers (Shania & Faith), two anti-male singers (Rebecca Lynn Howard & Martina McBride), and one really big case of hat-hair (Terri Clark). I choose Terri Clark's "I Just Wanna Be Mad"

Group/Duo Video of the Year: Toughest one for me, I think. I eliminate the Dixie Chicks because of Natalie's recent comments and Diamond Rio because of their video with Martin Sheen, and I am left with Trick Pony, Rascal Flatts, and Montgomery Gentry. I choose Montgomery Gentry's "My Town" because of it's blue-collar feel to it.

Breakthrough (Rookie) Video of the Year: I actually like all of these nominated. I would probably pick Blake Shelton's "Ol' Red" because the video follows the story and is probably most entertaining.

Hottest Male Video of the Year: Toby Keith's "Who's your Daddy" is light-hearted and entertaining (is this the same female from the "How Do You Like Me Now" video?), and the ending with Cletus T. Judd is hilarious.

Hottest Female Video of the Year: Discounting the Dixie Chicks, Faith, and Shania for reasons listed above, we are left with Deana Carter frolicking in her underwear in "There's No Limit" and a slimmed down LeAnn Rimes in a sleek and silky number in "Life Goes On". After several cold showers, I have to go with LeAnn Rimes.

Just my opinions.

Shania and Terri Clark are Canadian. I heard Faith Hill played a Gore Fund raiser/campaign stop. That leaves Martina McBride (she of "Independence Day" fame). She's the best of the lot anyway.

CMT ? I don't think I've heard any real country music since the '70's. Any good country music coming out today won't get played on the radio. Nearly all of this crap today
is only one step above rap "music".
Bob Wills, Hank Thompson, Sonny James,Merle,George(Strait and Jones),Don Williams, and Willie haven't been matched by any of the newcomers and probably won't be. Charley Pride, Ronnie Milsap, Bobby Bare, Jerry Reed and a few others carried it on for a while, but none of todays bunch are worth the cost of their cd's.

What makes you think Rebecca Lynn Howard is anti-male? I don't get that at all from her music. Have you heard the "Forgive" cd? If you listen to her music you'd realize that she wears her love for her husband and her religious faith on her sleeve. A couple of her songs: "Daddy, Jesus, and You" ( a song about the only three men she's ever loved) "Jesus and Bartenders (Have Heard It All)" and she ends her "Forgive" cd with the hymn "Softly and Tenderly Jesus Is Calling".

Rebecca Lynn Howard is talented, Country to the core, and bold enough to proclaim her faith through her music when it's not the hip thing to do. She'll get my vote in any category she shows up in.
