France has a "moral duty" to participate in the reconstruction of a postwar Iraq, even as it works to block a U.S.-led military strike against Saddam Hussein, French Ambassador Jean-David Levitte said yesterday.

But U.S. hopes for a major contribution from allies in the expensive rebuilding job in Iraq suffered a blow when a leading European Union foreign policy official said the deep divisions in Europe over the war could limit EU contributions after the conflict.

"The Bush administration thus far has rejected calls to freeze out countries that opposed the war in the postconflict reconstruction effort, but U.S. officials have pointedly noted that a new Iraq government might take that opposition into account in their own reconstruction plans."

No kidding! Once the new government in Iraq is told the conditions of our support (militarily and financially), France and others could on the outside looking in.

To hell with the French. If they can't help out now, they can go screw themselves after.

The last thing we need is those idiots in Iraq telling the people there how they opposed the U.S. and how they are the "good guys."

Again I say: TO HELL WITH THE FRENCH.

The French are going to unwelcome in Baghdad for about two weeks.

Then they'll bribe their way back in. They always do.

Yeah, I doubt anyone is really surprised by this.

I remember some childhood fable about the old hen trying to get the other animals around the farm to help bake the bread . . .

Which they will be paid for from Iraqi oil. They don't say that they will actually pay money out of pocket. Plus the UN is important since they have influence over that Sanctions bureaucracy. and they need their foot in the door to preserve those contracts they made with the old regime.

No doubt State and Powell will let the Frenchies in to make nice-nice again.

One of my FAVORITE little fairy tales. It's called " THE LITTLE RED HEN ". The short of it is, she finds a few grains and asks various animals to help her do various things with them. In the end,she has to do EVERYTHING herself; including baking a lovely loaf of bread. When the other animals smell the delicious aroma, they all want some; however, she tells them, that since she had to do all the work herself, she and she alone is going to enjoy the fruit of her labor. Quite apt ! :-)

I was thinking of exactly the same story. "Who will help me plow the ground?" Not me said the sheep, not me said the horse .... "Who will help me sow my seed?" It goes all the way to baking the bread, and still no takers, and then she asks, who will help me eat my bread?.... and there were LOTS of takers. Can't remember if she gave them any bread or not, but I don't think she did. Maybe Bush could find a copy of that book and mail it to Chirac.

"France has a "moral duty" to participate in the reconstruction of a postwar Iraq, even as it works to block a U.S.-led military strike against Saddam Hussein, French Ambassador Jean-David Levitte said yesterday."

I didn't bother to read anymore after that. No point. France is being France again. Chicken out of the fight, but stick their nose in after it's done. They have done this before.

SCREW 'em!

The frogs have taken me from having a little bit of respect for them (and believe me, I mean a little) to having NO respect, and then to feeling utter revulsion at them. I am sure I'm but one of many Americans they have affected in this way.

Cheese eating surrender monkeys? Doesn't BEGIN to say how much I dislike them.

But he said France was prepared to contribute to a rebuilding effort that is expected to cost tens of billions of dollars over many years.

Swell, since you're doing such a FINE job of contributing to Saddams ouster your help is oh, so welcome in reconstruction efforts. NOT!
