GOTTA' SEE THIS!!!!
A FANTASTIC, colorful multimedia slide presentation using Flash Multimedia (in Japanese) awaits you at this URL:
http://www.asahi.com/special/iraq/
It is today's online edition of the major Japanese daily, "Asahi Shimbun".
1) GO to this page. Don't delay!
2) Scroll down about 1/3 of the page and you will see three big graphic boxes and, when you cursor over them, hot links will take you to three short individual multimedia presentations the Japanese press has done on:
a) Japan's MSDF Aegis warship capabilities and how/where they will help the USA in the coming War in the Indian Ocean;
b) an excellent Iraq overview showing WMD areas, troop strength, cities, no-fly zones, etc. and
c) current USA forces in the Iraq region, showing land, air and sea positions, patriot missile deployment, steath bombers, etc.
Just scroll along the little symbols for the weapony you are interested in, and hit the links.
It is strong on graphics, so you will need no knowledge of the Japanese text to enjoy and understand.
TOPICS: Culture/Society; Foreign Affairs; Front Page News; Government; Japan; News/Current Events; War on Terror
KEYWORDS: aegis; flash; iraq; japan; liberation; multimedia; saddam; troops; us; war
If a 'Freeper' can now put up the top page of each of the three graphics that appear on this Asahi Shimbun page, and create direct hot links for us, that would be appreciated.

Nice pictures, but my Katakana is a little rusty. Something about iraku, data rinkus and and herukoputaas...
I've noticed Japanese newspapers tend to give their readers alot more credit for intelligence than our's do.

I might be a little more impressed if I knew more Japanese than I learned watching SHOGUN...(sigh)

Hey, that as good AIT.
Cool. GREAT!
Just visited that Ashai website you mentioned and saw some of it. I think it is Pentagon quality and was well done by the Japanese.
I am very glad they are standing by us in the Indian Ocean and doing all they can based on their constitutional restrictions.
(I also think the AM should take off that other stupid link that was thrown up right after you put this up).

Thank you. One of the three may have been a little bit difficult to understand but the graphics were still good. The first one on the Japanese Aegis warship (including schematic breakdown) was excellent, especially the last slide showing a little red line leaving from Japan, down throught the South China Sea, Malacca, Andaman sea and into the Indian Ocean showing where they will be on station in support of the US. Thanks for the feedback.

The one people might 'get' the least is the middle presentation. The black sub boxes on the left of the presentation on Iraq's internal situation are, in order: "Top", "Major Cities/Country Info", "WMD", "military positions", "no fly zones", "population breakdown-ethnicity", and "oil/pipelines". In that order.

I've noticed Japanese newspapers tend to give their readers alot more credit for intelligence than our's do.Being the sailor that I am, I've noticed Japanese newspapers always mention a ship's tonnage. To most Americans, that doesn't mean squat. Does it mean anything to most Japanese? I don't know.
