LA HABRA -- Antiwar protesters burned and ripped up flags, flowers and patriotic signs at a Sept. 11 memorial that residents erected on a fence along Whittier Boulevard days after the terrorist attacks in 2001 and have maintained ever since.

However, although officers witnessed the vandalism Saturday afternoon, police did not arrest three people seen damaging the display because they were "exercising the same freedom of speech that the people who put up the flags were,' La Habra Police Capt. John Rees said Monday.

"For this to be vandalism, there had to be an ill-will intent,' he said.

As another Cal local don’t let the California bashing get to you I know that lumping all California together as the left is silly by that logic Free Republic, based in California and Jimrob are a left wing org)

The reality is California is pulled left by some high population area in LA and Frisco If you look at the famed Bush 2000 red zone map most of California is red to with some costal Blue hot spots just like the overall U.S.

As for the site in La Habra I was just up ther again and there was a TV crew interviewing Tracy up there

Also I've talked alot of our locals in the area, people will be keeping an eye on it

( we have a large number of ex vet pro American good guy bikers in this area that ride Whittier Blvd. if something like this is tried again.. I dont think It Will Be Pretty .. in this area the left is outnumbered

That is possible. Why would police in La Habra allow fires to be set of flags without permits to do so?
We are a dry area where many fires can start over anything and you can't legally even set of the legal fireworks in that town last I heard.
This is close by to me (a few miles north), so I know about the area and those cops would have stopped that and given tickets and taken names.

Who witnessed the police doing nothing would be an interesting revelation.

There is a lot of poverty in that area and there might have been embellishment by one of the many illegals who live there.

Judging from the statement of the police officer, it would seem he just stood back and cheered them on.

That's not just an officer, that's the Chief of Police.

They also added that several of their officers are deployed, and that they were completely offended by the national news regarding this incident.

As twisted as things are in California, I can see this scene going something like, "You offended us ..." BANG! And as long as the officers didn't "have an ill-will intent" they are home free.

If you can't lighten up and take your state as the joke it is, then damn, go to DU and get serious and defend it like they do! I have nothing against the fine people of Whittier or those that (that 20-25% of "normal" people) who are patriotic. But your state was slammed again on Hannity's show with his comment:

He stated to me on the phone that no police witnissed the incident! He asserted that the police were not on the scene, and were only notified after the fact. He also stated that a report has been taken, but barring witnisses he did not hold out much hope for a prosocution. This seems to conflict with something else he told me, which was that if the police had gone in to break up the protest there would have been a 180 degree turn in how the article was written, and it would have made the police look like bad guys. Of course, one has to wonder if the police weren't there then how could they have "gone in" and broken up the the protest? He also reiterated what Captain Reese said about the owner of the fence having to file a complaint in order for the police to take any action. Again, this seemed to conflict with his assertion that no police were present.

Definitely some discrepancies here. They told me that they were outraged over the national press reports which he denied, and that they were hoping to get out their side of the story by tomorrow, as they have been inundated by hundreds of nasty calls and emails....

Noone is giving anything to anyone. Millions of us voted for Bush, and Simon and anyone that's not a Democrat so give it a rest. It was Pete Wilson support of Prop 187 that cost Republican's the governorship of this state. Period. I don't expect you to understand, but understand this: there are millions of conservative Republican's in California. In fact almost every County in California voted for GWB. The few that didn't happen to have the majority of the population. Understand this too. I pass by that all the time and it is a poor area and a very touching humble memorial.
Though full of illegal immigrants in that area, there are a few non-illegals there as well.
It makes sense that elementary school kids formed that.

I thought it was a great display and I look forward to seeing it when I pass by. It is really two sides of a chain linked fence around a business property.

I found it all very moving and this was bad stuff.

The community probably have this up better than before already.

I know that area intimately and have friends right down the road from that area. Ever hear of Friendly hills? Or La Habra heights? There are 5 million dollar homes in that immediate area! East Whittir which borders La Habra has homes that run from 320,000 and up. You are obviously thinking about downtown La Habra or somewhere else. Even homes in that area run in the 250,000 range. A poor area it aint....LOL..

But I will agree, it is a very nice memorial, which is being put back up as we speak. I have seen it several times.

La Habra Heights is the 51st most wealthy area with homes that average 1.3 million dollars, but that area of La Habra is not like that at all. I play tennis in La Habra Heights.
You are not talking La Habra Heights regarding this memorial.

An out-house in CA goes for $300,000.00, so you are not saying much there. LOL

It is a run-down blighted part of town surrounded by illegal immigrants. It has a lot of poverty right there. It is old, run-down and gang ridden. It is almost a little Mexico and I would not have family folks walking that area at night. It is dangerous at night.

Well your somewhat both right

Whittier Blvd is kind of a dividing line in the area any local in the area know if you live “above the Blvd.” = rich white area (your going up in the hill)

Downtown La Habra is below the Blvd and the local nickname for it is "Guada La Habra"

However they know who did this and it was one Soccer Mom and her teenagers from above the Blvd
