French President Jacques Chirac, left, and Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov have said France and Russia will vote against a resolution requiring Iraq to disarm by March 17.
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- With announcements Monday from Russia and France that they would veto a proposed U.N. Security Council resolution that could express international support for a war against Iraq, the White House said it might accept further changes before presenting the resolution for a vote.

I believe GW has already started the offensive. It,s all about diplomacy right now.The US is the only superpower in the world and France is just trying to stand up to something that they know will smack them in the face in the long run,but it,s the only thing that they can have a say in against the US.The inspectors could find anything prohibited and it would not change Ch-iraqs mind. It,s his chance to stand up and try to be counted. It will burn him in the end!!

Can someone explain why are we even bothering at this point?
I could understand Bush wanting a vote, to have everyone stand up and declare whether they are with us or against us, but why on earth are WE compromising to try to please these bunch of Saddam-lovers.
Actually I think, much as I hate it, I can answer my own question: Blair. Tony is in a great deal of trouble at home, from the idiots in his own party, and we are trying to help him out, and not let him fall, as a result of his steadfast support of the US.
But I would still love for us to start the war, start dropping those lovely MOABs, while the UN is still arguing over things.

Can someone explain why are we even bothering at this point? It gives us something to do while the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized) deploys.

So, we let Blair take down the whole operation?
Maybe if Bush just caves all will be happy, Blair will be a hero to his people, the French can continue to help Saddam build weapons to kill Americans, Saddam can use those stockpiled WMD on any and all, Russia will align with him and they then can take on America.
The U.N. will be the world force and will, of course, condone any Saddam wish while ever weakening America.
Soon, America will be controlled. France a world power in tow with Saddam. Socialism and dictators will rule the world.

proposed change:
Iraq must drive all their mobile facilities and bring all their barrells of chemical and biological agents and all their drones and missles to Bagdahd Center by March 18th.
Or else.
Oh..... and Sadam and his precious guard must be there for a formal transition of governmental operations to the USA.

Actually, Blair would lose more in his own country by backing down now, so even he should not be 'waiting' on a second resolution.
Whoever mentioned the 4th Brigade being ready is probably right. It'll happen on OUR timetable.

I am not sure if that is a swipe at his Christianity or something else, but that was uncalled for.
We are all frustrated. I am approaching the point where I could say some freaking cuss words.
But.....don't attack the President like that in such a low way.

Well, I agree Blair is in BIG trouble at home. I'm amazed that he has taken such a strong stance on support in our favor. I mean, he's basically the figurehead of the Socialist party over there, isn't he?. Socialists would love nothing more than to see the destruction of America. I've usually taken a harsh attitude towards Blair, but because of his unwavering support, he's earned my grattitude. I can see wanting to help him, but it's kind of like hand-feeding crocodiles, turning up at the next feeding and then realizing you forgot the meat.
Of course the Socialists want to consume their own. It's in their nature. Sadly, I don't know how it's possible to help Blair, but Bush will be true to his friends. Britain and it's good people (excluding the Socialists) have been a good friend, and GW will stand by them.

Can't believe we are wavering like this. Morale of the troops? Look at the over all morale of the American people right now. Are we gonna do something or aren't we? Just get it over with...Saddam is not going to change. Scenerio...Doctor..."I'm terribly sorry...you have cancer. We can go in tomorrow and cut it out and you will live a much longer prosperous life." Patient..."Doc.. I think I'm just going to wait and see if it goes away, there is the expense of the surgery, and what if I don't make thru the surgery and I'm afraid, I'll just wait and see." Rubber mallet to patients head!! I am so frustrated with all this crap, WE DON'T NEED THE UN. THEY NEED US!! WE DON'T NEED THE WORLD...THEY DEPEND ON US!! It puts me in tears to see the people who are supporting a cruel, murderous, dangerous dictator, and will turn their backs on the very country that allows themselves the freedom they have. GOD HELP US!!

This is Powell's mess. How much further does he intend to back-pedal to get his worthless resolution?
The longer we wait the more impossible it becomes to reach a decision. We are now in the ridiculus position of having the French, the freakin' french for God's sake, determining how we will defend ourselves.
This is just plain unacceptable and Powell should be fired and the war commenced post-haste.
