By a unanimous vote tonight the Town Board of this small rural town in Northern Colorado passed a Resolution Supporting Our Troops. This bipartisan effort shows how America can come together when our troops and their families need support. Your town should be next.....

I took this to our local town board after a heads up from fellow FReeper fivetoes. There was no opposition in our patriotic town and the families of the troops will be thrilled to learn of the support from their fellow citizens. If any troops from Pierce, Colorado happen to read this, WE DID THIS FOR YOU!
A RESOLUTION RELATING TO CURRENT MILITARY ACTIONS OF THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES.
WHEREAS, The President of the United States has activated and deployed numerous men and women of the Armed Forces from Pierce, Colorado to assignments and missions related to the ongoing global war on terror and the current crisis in Iraq; and,
WHEREAS, The citizens of Pierce deserve high praise for their zeal and patriotism in answering their nation's call to duty whenever the cause of Freedom and Justice is threatened by foreign tyrants and aggressors; and,
WHEREAS, The uniformed men and women of our community are once again called upon to offer their utmost devotion in the defense of their country and to bring peace to a troubled corner of the Earth.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE TOWN BOARD OF PIERCE, COLORADO AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: It wholeheartedly supports and appreciates the brave men and women of Pierce, Colorado serving in the United States Military, and wishes them Godspeed in their dangerous missions and a safe return from harm's way.
Section 2: This Resolution shall take effect upon its passage & approval
Passed by unanimous vote, 3-10-03
All the Best,

If my town leaders choose to waste their time on meaningless symbolic exercises like this, then they are no better than the Leftist buffoons who likewise waste their time (which was granted them by their constituents) on ANTI-war "resolutions."
The Constitution grants the power to make war to Congress and to the President, period. This power is NOT granted to the states, or by extension to the localities. We act through our Federal elected representatives, and our President, to make our wishes known and our voices heard. We do NOT need a bunch of would-be local heroes mouthing off about it "in our name." We can do that ourselves.
The Houston City Council wasted about two or three days last week on these resolutions, without having a d*mned thing to show for it except meeting minutes that showed endless squabbling, speechifying and posturing for the cameras.
BAH!
This AIN'T THEIR JOB, and they all of them ought to be thrown out of office for abuse of the public trust.
And that goes for anyone "resolving" to support the troops, or the President, or anyone else. Let them stick to figuring out how to fix potholes and keeping the fire department functioning. We already have representative voices speaking out on this subject, and they are voices that actually COUNT!
'Nuff said!

Are you having a bad day or what?
If my little town wants to say to our citizens that we Support Our Troops, I say GREAT! This means a lot to the families here that have their sons and daughters in harms way. It took 3 minutes to pass this resolution by unanimous vote and I am damned proud to introduce it!! I look at it as outstanding public service. Enough said.

Way to go Trteamer! Wasn't that abou the easiest political action you have ever undertaken?
I have added Pierce, Colorado to the short, but growing list of cities, counties and states that have passed this resolution.
Anyone can get more information here Resolution To Support Our Troops

With all due respect to your effort, I am against town councils or boards voting pro or con to the war in Iraq.
We elect our officials to take care of business pertaining to local concerns. We should not expect nor encourage them to fritter away their time on national security issues that have no bearing on the outcome.

Like passing more taxes?
To: Travelgirl
No, but it does come up to ballot frequently. LOL
But, snow removal and potholes are local concerns that our local elected officials should concern themselves with, instead of foreign policy.
I don't recall asking my district city councilman any questions of foreign policy nor did he volunteer any before I voted for him.
