New Bush neighbor picks place for peace -
residents say he chose wrong town for anti-war effort Excerpt:The small white home with aluminum siding is catty-corner to the Coffee Station, the city's popular restaurant, and a few yards from Crawford City Hall.
"I can wave at the police chief from the back porch," said Mr. Wolf, who hopes to entice a nun to take up residence in the house.
In Washington, deputy White House press secretary Scott McClellan said he wasn't familiar with the peace house backers' plan, "but like other groups and individuals in America, they have a right to express their opinions. That's a foundation of American democracy."
"If the people of Iraq try to speak out," he said, "they have their tongues cut out by the brutal regime."

No, you don't HAVE to be a Texan to get on this list!

"It has a lot to do with Bush being near," said John Wolf, the activist who purchased the home. "But the area really needs an interfaith center and a spiritual presence." Sure. A rural Texas town needs an interfaith center like you need a piano when bear hunting.

"She should be careful," Ms. Ingram said out of concern for the planned occupant. "Something could happen to the house." Sounds like a good ole' Texas threat to me... Fair warning if you ask me.

Sounds to me like he is planning to use a property zoned as residential for commercial/political purposes. I wonder if he will need a zoning change for this? Sounds like he may have a tough time getting that past the citizens and the local zoning board. How about a hefty fine every day that he uses the property for such purposes other than its residential zoning status allows.
To: MeeknMing
I oughtta drive out that way one of these days..

I was thinking it sounded like a tax sheltered summer home. Create a non profit org and buy a house with tax free money.

Thanks for the heads up!

The immediate neighbors should form a home owners association and have some real fun with these morons.
To: SirFishalot
I thought it was the liberals that tried to form homeowners associations and have some fun with personal property rights?

"But the area really needs an interfaith center and a spiritual presence."Yep. Gotta bridge those chasms of mistrust and animosity between baptists and, er, uh, other baptists. Bowling together just ain't enough, folks.

So, you agree with using land-use zoning to limit property rights. Sounds like hypocrisy

How "enlightened", "New Age" and "progressive" sounding.
I bet many from Hollywood will line up to make a pilgrimage to this envisioned faux "spititual center".
To: MeeknMing
You know, these turds with their "morally superior" attitudes really make me sick. They come across as if anyone who doesn't agree with them is a warmonger, rather than being realistic. No one wants war, but at times it is unavoidable.

You're right, zoning is the towns best bet. It's not a multi-family dwelling, not zoned for a church, not zoned for a business. If the town gets busy real quick, the guy may find he only has a house.
How does he plan on getting permits to build all that stuff he has in mind?
To: McGavin999; VRWCmember
You reckon Crawford has any zoning laws?
