1,200 turn out with flags in square; 300 opponents show at Central Library
Nearly 1,200 supporters of a war against Iraq withstood heavy snow and bitter winds Saturday to stage a rally at Cathedral Square in downtown Milwaukee.
About a mile west, nearly 300 assembled inside the Milwaukee Public Library in a rally for peace and celebration of International Women's Day.
Views at both rallies reflected the national debate that continues as the world watches the U.S. buildup of nearly 300,000 troops on the borders of Saddam Hussein's Iraq.
Polls show most Americans support President Bush but would like the administration to win international backing before using force.
An ABC-Washington Post poll last week found that 59% of adults support Bush's plan to disarm Iraq, by force if necessary, although almost half of the supporters said they had serious reservations about a war.
In Omaha, Neb., Saturday, nearly 5,000 rallied to back military action, and former Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Kerrey was there to urge support for U.S. troops.

Re picture of woman on post no. 4.
What a beautiful woman. I'm so proud of her and other great American's like her. I'm so proud of our sons and daughters serving in the Mid-East. My love for them all grows.

She is the mom of a Wisconsin FReeper named crow. She is always the one they get a picture of at the rallies. I call her the Forrest Gump of FReeping.
She is quite a lady and what a wonderful son she raised!

Yup, that's my Mom all right. That's why I am this way.
She has quite the knack for having her picture in the paper and and the TV news. Known locally as the Hat Lady.
The signs were her words, my printer. Many thanks for all your kind comments.

You must be very proud of her, and vice versa. Heck, we're all proud of her, not just FReepers.
My wife's uncle called to tell me about this picture as soon as he saw it in the paper this morning. He was very happy to see the article, and knew I'd like it too.
The reporter tried to be accurate, but alas, the knee-jerk lefty bias is so ingrained that she couldn't get the part about the Wash. Post/ABC news poll right. That poll actually asked if people support Bush's policy of disarming Saddam, by force if necessary, even without UN approval. 59% supported the President's policy. So the part about criticism over not gaining international support was way off base.
Oh, and the hack who claimed that Bush wasn't elected does absolutely nothing good to eliminate so-called misunderstandings about what the anti-Americans of today are doing.

I've heard both Sykes and Wagner credit Free Republic. Of course, we have to continue to FREEP in our great tradition regardless of backup, but having them with us doesn't hurt one bit! Like Belling would ever condescend to subject his snuffling nostrils to putting his body where his big mouth is, all hat and no cattle as he is. Sykes and Wagner both recognized they were lending their weight to something already set up. And it was good weight.
